Scripture has many "one another" commands for the Church.

Share a "one another" passage, and comment/discuss.

quote:

Romans 12:10 (King James Version)

10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

This verse is out of a passage about love. In the passage, love is described quite clearly to be an absence of hate and a compassion to fellow man without expectation. It cautions us to refuse retaliation and to remain focused on God and His plan. This passage is one that I find helpful in times when things seem to be against me. It bolsters my focus on praying about something or someone rather than thinking about how to pay someone back or ranting about how unfair life can be.

hebrews 10.24: and let us consider one another in order provoke to love and good works

i just like the idea that we are supposed to provoke and challenge and spur each other on - iron sharpening iron and all that...

I'll just put in that I consider the one another to be one Christian to another Christian.

Some may disagree with that.

THanks

Romans 16:16 "Salute one another with a holy kiss."

A former pastor at a charismatic church I attended would quote this and say, "Women kiss the women, men kiss the men".

Nobody did it though.

Eph 3:11 It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. 14 Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. 15 Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into Him who is the Head, that is, Christ.

Don't know if this counts since it doesn't specifically state 'one another', but I think the idea is there to help each other learn and grow.

John 13:34 A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another.

I love the "one anothers" of scripture because they take away our excuse for not doing community as the body of Christ today.

I may be uncomfortable with the way you talk or the way you walk or even the way you smell, but I am commanded to love you as a fellow brother/sister in Christ. Not by gritting my teeth and "taking one for Jesus," but by genuinely loving you as Christ loves me.

Takes away all the lone ranger excuses and gives a whole new outlook on what community is within the body of Christ.

I'm the queen at ignoring my own threads...

Thank you all for responding so far. All of your posts are spot on!

We can do so much as a church, and very often all the STUFF we are doing is taking away from the "one another" commands. Perhaps you all have also experienced this?

Here is another passage:

Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.

So much in this passage:

teach one another
admonish one another
using all wisdom
sing psalms
sing hymns
sing spiritual songs
all with gratitude in your hearts to God!

I see that all of these things are very core to excellent fellowship.

1 Peter 4:9 Be hospitable to one another without grumbling.

This means that all of you are supposed to invite me over for dinner, and be happy about it.

Seriously, hospitality is not just a Martha Stewart dinner, though it can be (and please serve chocolate for dessert ).

answers.com:

Hospitable
1. Disposed to treat guests with warmth and generosity.
2. Indicative of cordiality toward guests: a hospitable act.
3. Having an open mind; receptive: hospitable to new ideas.
4. Favorable to growth and development; agreeable: a hospitable environment.

Strong's also uses the word generous to define this hospitality.

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds.

I once served under a pastor who lied all the time. It was a tangled web! Everyone was confused and chaos resulted. I learned the obvious--WOW, truth really matters, and without it, fellowship and unity is impossible.

I can imagine!! That is really strange. Thanks for posting all of these 'one anothers', crankius!

If you have any encourgement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interest, but also to the interest of others. Philippians 2:1-4

Romans 13:8 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, for he who loves another has fulfilled the law.

This is like the one doinkdom posted.

Awesome thread!

John 13:14 NIV

Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another's feet.

Matt 24:7-10
7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.
8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.
9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.
10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.

Here we have the “flip side” if you will.

We believe that the above account describes “Christians” (those who claim Christ) betraying and hating true believers.

John 16:2
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.
