I am fairly certain our souls leave our bodies the instant we die. Jesus told the thief on the cross next to him ,"Today you are with me in paradise". He didn't say, "When I come back in 2000+ years I'll see you again". When King David's son died he said," Since you cannot come back to me, I will come to you". After Jesus was crucified he went down into hell and preached, this is where paradise was at the time. Moses was seen by Jesus' desciples, if he was sleeping they wouldn't have seen him. Then there are the countless testimonies of people who visited heaven and yes, hell. Yes, there were people in both places. There are testimonies from people who were also raised from the dead. I hope this gives you some comfort knowing that your dad is with Jesus right now, happier than we can imagine, living in a beautiful mansion.

Luke 23:43 Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth, today you will be with me in paradise."
Our new bodies have to wait, but our souls are with Jesus. (IMHO)
