Hello, every one I'm new this this site it is very cool how Christians can share their view points. I just want to say as far as the length goes on a sermon depends on the person. Let me explain, I myself preach bewteen 20-30 minutes the reason is simple get to the point. As far as longer goes I have been in churches where sermons are 35-45 minutes long and its true people begin to lose intrest I wonder if the Pastors are being led by the Spirit of God or fell that they have to preach this long because its a job, and because of what others might say if he preach short. I think it is a sad thing to hear. Really, by the time you take out jokes, by the time pastors get off the subjects and tell stories then try to get back to the sermon the sermon would be a lot shorter.

If you dont believe me time it your self. I myself try to preach like Jesus right to the point! More often than enough a lot of pastors seem to mix teaching for preaching. This may sound hard but its the truth a lot of people go from church to church in search of a good preacher. Trust me they are hard to find in today churches.

In closing: when it come to sermons its not really how long ones preaches I learned that from Jesus, its what you say, thats what counts If you can't say what the Holy Spirit is telling you to say in less than 30 minutes than I wonder. if a lot of pastors are not entering into a babbling spirit.

Welcome.

I think it depends on the pastor. I was blessed to sit under my previous pastor's teaching that was always 45 minutes. I am now blessed with my new pastor who also teaches at least 45 minutes. Any stories he introduces are always tied into his teaching and any humor is not enough to detract. He makes the word come alive and challenges me in my walk with the Lord. Many in our congregation would be OK if his teachings were longer.

jdtruth,

I share your philosophy concerning sermon length. Any longer than 30 minutes and you are certain to loose your audience. I know this is true through much experience and observation. Being a former Ruling Elder in two churches now, I was usually thanked for my brevity when I had the opportunity to preach. I know in the Reformed circles in which I work long "Puritan" style sermons are a virtue. I don't buy it . . . and neither do the two parishioners that told me this past week that they will no longer attend services because the Teaching Elder can't seem to preach for less than 1 hour. He has been warned about this, but opts to ignore good advice. So be it.

How long a sermon takes "ONLY" depends on the Power of the Holy Spirit, assuming the pastor is led by the Holy Spirit and not led by his carnal flesh. :)

Many keeps forgetting but being led by the spirit of God and his power. Many seems to talks in terms of being led by the flesh instead.

In answer to your question on the title of the thread..yes, if we speak the truth we are going to be considered the enemy by many many people and most of the time it is the people in church every Sunday.
