I work for a ministry and one of the guys I work with referred to 2 Mormon missionaries riding down the street as false prophets.
Now, I know they don't proclaim the truth, but I wondered if they, in their roles "qualify" as a prophet. I asked that and felt a bit dumb in front of my other coworkers, including my boss, because the guy gave me kind of a flip remark, like I was asking a dumb question. I guess I need to research "prophet" defintions more, and I have been, but still have not come to a conclusion. I would say they are false teachers, but I still don't know if the title of prophet is fitting. My coworker, when I said, "but what is a prophet?" (not because I had no clue, but because I thought we were working off of different viewpoints of what a prophet is) replied, "Someone who declares something." Really? Is that correct?

I'm certainly not trying to start a battle with my coworker, but he often speaks to me on issues this way, scriptural or task-related issues, and I always seem to fumble and say even more stupid things when he starts drilling in on me. I would love to have some solid points to make when talking to him about it, but still have questions at this point.

Any scriptural references and God-given wisdom would be greatly appreciated so I can fully understand it.

Thanks and God Bless You.

I would say no. False teachers would be closer to it, but still off IMO.

I would leave it at "Unsaved" and be content.

There are two kinds of people in the world when you boil it all down - the saved and the lost.

The typical Mormon doctrinal structure is devoid of the concept of salvation by Christ alone, salvation by grace, through faith alone. They have a very convoluted doctrine which is a mixture of several different religious / spiritual tradtions. They respect the Bible, but hold the Book of Mormon to be higher than the Bible.

To call them "false prophets" is a little bit off in my opinion. If they haven't come to the Savior for eternal life, then they are lost, plain and simple - an need to hear the Gospel of grace that has the power to save them.

False Prophets? No.

Teachers of cultic and false teachings? Meaning they are false teachers? OK.

But they are unsaved and in need of God's grace. Their zeal and family values are something many self-professing Christians need to learn. Sad how they are willing to do for a lie what so few are for the truth.

They certainly qualify as false prophets and false teachers in my book.

Same here--they are false prophets who claim they are bible believing Christians which in all actuality they are not. They are just preaching another Jesus manfactured by Joseph Smith. They may practice "family values," but their teaching is not of God.

False prophets would be fitting. They peddle an antichrist message.
