In mid-April my mom ordered an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper for me. It is the original co-sleeper in gingham blue. I picked that color because our bedroom is light blue and light yellow and I wanted it to match. She ordered it from the Arm's Reach website and they said it would arrive the first week in May. When it wasn't here by the second week of May she called them to check and see when she would get it. They told her it would definitely be here by May 23. It still hasn't arrived, so she called again today. The woman was very rude to her and told her it wouldn't be here until the end of June so she could either cancel her order or get a sage green one (the only color they have in stock) and it will be here by mid-June. She is pretty upset with the company for being so rude, but she called and asked me what I want to do.
We can go to Babies R Us this weekend and get a mini co-sleeper that is blue or we can order an original co-sleeper from the BRU website that is an off white color. BRU does not carry the original co-sleepers in the store, only online.
The Original is 40" x 28" x 31" and has a weight limit of 30 lbs. in the co-sleeping position and 50 lbs. when used as a play yard. The mini is 34”x 20”x31” and the weight limit is 23 lbs. It cannot be used as a play yard.
I don't know what to do!! I am 38 weeks 4 days pregnant, so the baby could come any day now. I want him to be able to sleep beside me at least until he is only waking up to eat once a night. We already have this pack 'n play that we bought to use for trips up to Pennsylvania. We got the cheapest one because we only planned to use it for travel. I need to make a decision quickly. What should I do?

If I were you, I'd stick with using the pack and play by your bedside or buy the mini one.
Seems to me your baby could be here any day now, so it might be best not to rely on things having to be delivered.

I don't know if you would consider a secondhand one, but there are several on EBay. Not sure if there's any near you.

Would the mini one last until he is sleeping mostly through the night?

I'm planning on doing what you are doing Emily, and as of right now I am planning to just use the pack and play. For one, it will serve a longer purpose and I have a hard time justifying buying a co-sleeper when the pack and play will serve the same purpose (but thats just me). I LIKE the co-sleepers but for me it seems like one more "thing" and more cost.

I can see where you're coming from, except with the pack & play you've got to actually physically get out of bed to get the baby to feed/change/whatever. Whereas with the co-sleeper that's not necessary. One need only roll over and bring the baby into bed and feed or whatever. *For me* this enabled me to get back to sleep quickly without waking up fully and thus gave me more sleep in those beginning dizzy days.
(We did a convertable bassinet with Hannah in our room for the first 2 months...I got much less sleep than I did with Jael.)
That makes sense too. I'm just still torn, personally, I'm just having a hard time accepting the cost of "one more thing"...babies are expensive!  I'm not 100% sure I'm not going to at least register for one of the small ones.....
But anyway, I am taking Emily's thread off topic....

It's ok Erin.
My mom cancelled the order with the Arm's Reach company. We found another website that sells them (they have free shipping and BRU doesn't) so we ordered one from there. It was in stock and they will ship it on Monday. If the baby comes before it gets here we will use the pack 'n play for a few nights.

Some Pack 'n Plays have inserts for a bassinet/changing table. If it is pushed up to the bed (depending on the height of the bed) it should be at the same level of the bed. It would be just as easy to reach as a co-sleeper, I am assuming. I have never seen or used a co-sleeper. Then after they are out of that, it can be used as a play pen or good for traveling. I used a bassinet for my dd until she was about 3 or 4 months old. Then she went into a crib with a baby monitor.
If you are worried about getting up often in the night and are planning on breastfeeding, I recommend pumping too. That way your dh can be able to do a night time feeding and let you get some sleep. :) Just my suggestion. Everyone is different and you will find what works for you.

depending on how big the baby is and how fast he grows, it very well could last for years. Jack is just now (at 22mo) hitting that max weight for that one. Now granted he is small for his age (stays about in the 3% range)...but it really would depend on how little David grows as to how long you could use it.
If this were me...and considering this isn't going to be your only baby...I would get what you need now (the mini) and deal with later on whenever that times comes.
Erin....we have a mini pack n play (well, I think it's called "travel" not "mini"). We just have it a few feet from the side of the bed..and Paul has no problem getting up to get baby and putting them back in our bed...he sleeps right through that. So I think the PNP vs co-sleeper would really depend on the person and how they sleep. If you or Klay can do that without waking much then it would be fine.
