Good evening all:
Some may or may not have seen some of my postings back in April or May that i was starting to ask questions about God and what were all here for in this life, at the sametime, I began to explore Christianity and read just some of the bible........since then three months rougly has passed, and in that time, I lost my computer to a surge so I couldnt get back on to talk on here till now.
I also began in that time started to attend a church, but that quickly went down hill, as I found nothing for me in the church that I attended for those few times, that may sound bad, but I felt alone in the church with no one to really connect with, so I never went back like an idiot. Over these last few months as well being a firefighter I have also come to see some bad things that I am very grateful to be alive and dont take anything for granted, and you cant take anything for granted being a firefighter, police, emt etc. We usually suck it up and move on.
However, I sit here tonight and am finally able to get online again this week as I said and started to really have the flood of thoughts of God come back again, it was always there for the last few months, but I stopped reading my bible after dropping out of church etc.
I havent any christian friends that I can talk to about this, and frankly I wouldnt know where to begin to talk to someone.....
Tonight, just like three months ago, Im stuck in a position where I wanna know God, but there is so much out there that is just ripping me apart inside with if I should attend church again, but then theres that feeling of being alone again in church and not knowing what to say to someone...etc.
Even more scary tonight is about two weeks ago I entered my first structure that was on fire, and I remember someone on here before saying to me in a post in my line of work, if I would die in a fire, or some freak accident, where would I go.......my answer tonight is I dont know where I would go.

Going to Church - while I highly reccommend it Proud - is not the deciding factor that will get you there.
Accepting that Jesus died for your sins, because nothing you could ever do would be good enough to get there - that's why God came to earth - to be punished for your transgressions -and asking the Him to come and change you because you can't change you...
That's what will let you know where you go when you die. Oh, and tell someone about it. You need to confess it with your mouth too.
Then go to a bible believing church. That helps you GROW as a Christian.

This might be a good place to start reading in your bible.
And for the record: God wants you to know Him. He's pursuing you just like a captivated groom would pursue his bride. He created you for a purpose. That purpose is to know Him very well.
And as far as knowing anything, this is what Jesus had to say about it.
Matthew 7:7-8
7"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.
The struggle you're feeling about everything - that's the enemy. It just means you're very close.
And since this is a prayer forum... would it be okay if I prayed for you? I won't do it without your permission.

Well I am glad you are back!!
First off, do not stop going to church, that is exactly what satan wants you to do. He wants you to think that you are alone in the church and that there is nothing there for you. That was exactly his plan, get back in church ASAP! It takes time to get to know people, if not the same church find another one, and keep looking, go to a different church every sunday until you find one. That is what I had to do..Don't let satan win, when you have a tight grip on the Lord, he(satan) will tell you, loosen your grip just a little it's ok, well once you stop going to church, then reading the bible will stop, then your walk all together is gone from the Lord.. Well then satan wins...Don't let that happen...Get back into church now and don't lose that focus, pray to the Lord to show you where he wants you to go to church, pray for him to bring you good christian people..I kinda look at it like this, I don't care what anyone else is doing, I don't care who likes me or not, I am in church and I am in it for me and for my walk with the Lord...Go to church so that you have that time with God and get to know him....Don't let the enemy talk you into doing the opposite and doing nothing.....Get back into your bible, and get into church as soon as you can..I am praying for you my friend.....

proudamerican, may I suggest joining a Bible Study group at a Bible believing church. Keep checking out different ones till you find one that fits. It will help keep you in God's word, and you can interact with christians and not feel so alone, as well as being able to ask questions. Also keep reading your Bible, and think about what you've read. How it applies to you, and your life.
Lastly, I know there are a lot of bad things that happen out there, but try to see the good things too. Look around and see some of the wonderful things the Lord has made and that He does. A powerful storm, all the things you see in a walk in the woods, a rainbow, a butterfly, the grand canyon, everywhere we look, we can see His goodness. Then praise Him for it.
Sorry that wasn't last after all. Read His promises about salvation. Those are for you! Trust Him with all your heart. Believe that He is the Son of God, and that God raised Him from the grave, and confess His with Your mouth as Your Lord and Saviour and you can trust Him to keep His promises. That You can know where you will end up. That He gives you the power to be God's son. That He will never leave you. Talk with Him. God bless proudamerican.

WELCOME BACK.
Other people here are much more eloquent than me and put it much better, but all I can add is that God wants to be with you, and you have an inner desire to know him, and be with him. I think that you are feeling that right now, and that is calling you to be with like minded people and talk to them about it.
Please don't give up on church. I think that as a firefighter, when you are faced with a tough and dangerous situation, you depend on your team to help you and keep you safe. It is exactly the same with church.
Please look to find a bible based church, and maybe check on line to see if they have a "get to know the church" type of class. It is a great way to meet other people in the same situation as you. I would also suggest a bible study of guys, not sure how big your town is, but most reasonable size places have groups of people in the same profession that meet for a few minutes once a week and talk about stuff. That would be so helpful.

Father, we praise you for how you have made us to be with you, to want to know you, to want to have a relation with you. Father please help Proudamerican find the path that you want him to follow to get closer to you, guide his feet, open the right doors.

Thanks everyone, grabbed my bible late last night around 3.30 and just sat and read till about 4.30-5.00, didnt really know what I was reading as alot of it was confusing, but it was nice to sit and read Gods word for the first time in months, it felt nice to share with everyone last night how I felt.
As I sit here tonight typing, I am on the verge of asking God to save me......I am scared but at the sametime, have been fooling with this for months and so many negative thoughts etc.....but I did read last night that God will help those who call on him (that I remember).

Proudamerican,
You are just answering the basic call of our nature. We are made to seek God and love him.
You are on the right path. God will help those who call on him. We first acknowledge that we have sinned, and ask for his forgiveness. We ask him to come into our lives, we repent of our sins, and we ask to enter into a relationship with him.
