I think if I were a CCM fan I'd agree completely. ...honestly, he has a valid point.

The reason I found this interesting was that so many in SG seem to believe that the average SG fan has too much access to the artists. And, here we have someone saying that it may not be such a bad thing, and may in fact be a GOOD thing.

Well I think it's pretty much indisputable that for an artist to at least recognize and acknowledge their fans in a semi-personable way is great showing of humility and gratitude for the support of the fans.

Not to mention they are brothers and sisters in Christ and we are all part of the body of Christ and as Paul says in 1 Corinthians Chapter 12, " the eye cannot say to the hand I don't need you and the head cannot say to the feet I don't need you." We must be open to our brothers and
sisters.

For any Christian to hold himself better than anyone else and seperate himself from those with different gifts seems to me very much like what the Pharisees did. I can't speak for anyone else here but I sure wouldn't want my Jesus to say I was acting like a Pharisee.

I am only familiar with SG artists. But I have yet to meet one that was unapproachable. It has been my experience they all are very friendly and at least act like they enjoy meeting the fans and talking to them. I have made many friends in the SG industry and most of those friendships started out around a product table.

Right on. It's way to easy for a popular artist to act like they're above everyone else. While their accomplishments and talent are extraordinary, guess Who gave them their talent?

I think he has some very valid points! I think someone could make a lot of money (in the long run) by properly planning and executing a CCM "convention" similar to NQC. And, yes, I DO feel like there are enough fans to sustain it. But, I suspect that most of the fans of CCM are not "gray hairs" as in SG, so maybe a long weekend would be the answer for them.

I loved that article...lots of food for thought.

It never occurred to me before that there was no equivalent to NQC in the CCM world...never crossed my mind, but I would love an opportunity to go to something like that and I do think there are plenty of fans who would support it. In fact, I think they'd have to look for a venue large enough to hold all of the fans.

The closest thing to it that I've been to is what's called Winter Jam. It's always in February here in our town and it's a tour of about 5 very well known groups that tour together, but it's just a one night event.

The guy who wrote the article used to be the drummer for Big Tent Revival. They were a great band and they have all gone different directions in different ministries. I think he's got it right. CCM should take a good look at what SG music has in the NQC and give it some consideration.

I think he spoke the truth. being a fan of huge fan of SG as well as CCM, that part of me would love to see it. but it would be wild. you would need something like having it in Knoxville at University of Tennessee, and I seriously doubt Neyland Stadium and 110,000 or so seats as well as on the field would come close to holding the fans. Kutless recorded a live album in their hometown of Portland, Or and had 20k there. Newsboys would bring in a massive crowd. and I smile to see Greg X Voltz back on stage with Petra the draw that would bring.

It settles on the fact that CCM will draw huge amounts of people. similar to COuntry Music's. what makes COuntry music's successful crowd wise is they have the artists appear all over not just one spot for the concerts.

I so wish they would have meet and greet though. I would love to talk to Peter Furler again and to sit and talk with Third Day would be a special time for me. so many. but as was said, CCM has a wide variety that it compasses. whereas SG is mainly traditional and some Bluegrass and country gospel.

that could be a problem. because I know some CCM fans that will only listen to CHristian rap/metal, no other music does it for them. and to look at their walk, they are some powerful Christians. they just dont get into any other music. and they will not stay to hear say Chris Tomlin. and I would love to see the reactions to Demon Hunter, Underoath, Disciple, those artists fans at say, Natalie Grant or Rachael Lampa's show. they would be so restless it wouldnt be funny.

yes I would love to see that. but the industry would have to reconize, they made the sub-genre's so broad, not everyone will love to hear everyone sing.

one thing to look at though. these concerts aren't drawing maybe 100-200 or so to the concerts, they draw thousands a night. that would be difficult to meet all those nightly and still make the next show.

I agree - sometimes a handshake or a smile can make all the difference.

My daughter went to a thing they have every year in Cincinnati called Winter Jam. It always features five or six CCM groups. She got to meet every one of the artists and spend some time with each of them. She was really excited because she got autographs from everyone from Skillet!

Great article and I've heard Bart Millard of Mercy Me talk high praises for Southern Gospel especially the Crabb Family.

She was pretty excited about it. She also got to meet TobyMac (I call him ChiliMac just to irritate her ) and the Barlow Girls and several others that night.

As for me, I don't understand what they are singing half the time but if it gets the youngsters fired up for Christ, then I don't have a problem with it!

to listen to BarlowGirl speak of their ministry and more importantly, their walk with Christ. I respect them very much. 3 sisters that to not put them in a situation that is bad for girls, they don't even date. (( hard decision for girls that attractive in their 20's to make.)))

TobyMac has written a book called Under God. an amazing book.

so many have amazing walks and some powerful ministries but since they not 4 part harmony quartet then lots of people dont here that ministry.

I think Chris Tomlin has one of the best voices period in any genre of music. and can write some great songs.

but I wont get into a debate praising CCM. I think my love of the many genre's is well known.
