This question is not for pastors for obvious reasons. But your contributions are welcome.

Does your CV indicate that you're a Christian?

Is this a help or a hindrance?

I'm trying to compare answers from the USA/Canada (and elsewhere) with the UK. Here religion does not feature on a CV or job application form.

Sorry, mvic, I'll confess my ignorance because I don't know what CV stands for or what you are talking about. LL

Edited to add:

Sheesh, Tricia was thirty seconds faster. I wouldn't have have to confess my ignorance afterall.

Curriculum Vitae...otherwise known as a resume.

ETA: I don't have one since I've been at the same job for 19 years and don't plan to leave. Since I work at my church, our applications have a section for an employment candidate to write out their testimony.

Sorry - my fault.

The CV is the curriculum vitae. It's a statement you write which shows your name, address, date of birth, educational history (college/university and exams) and it lists all the jobs you've had in chronological order.

When you apply for a job it is customary in the UK to send your CV as well as completing the application form. The CV shows especially any work experience you've had - e.g. manager of a multi-national organisation etc ...

Some of my personal interests or activities/affiliations may suggest I'm a Christian (church worship team, etc.), but there's nowhere that outright says, "I'm a born again Christian."

Some forms of my resume do not have the interests/activities/affiliations section, though.

But come to think of it, part of my work history was as a missionary, so...

My resume includes 45 years as a missionary, evangelist, and Pastor.

So I would say yes.

Thanks

I spent 4 years at Bible college and it is on my CV as I gained a degree in Ministries there. Yes I feel it has been seen as a negative by some and yet surprisingly by others it has not. In fact some people who I would have thought it would be a problem for were completely welcoming. Neverthteless, God will have me work where He wills and I and other men do not have much say in the matter. In all cases, I am open and honest about my qualifications and am not ashamed of the Gospel and I see people appreciate me for who I am in Christ rather than what they might have come to expect from someone who had done the things I have done. They know me and I love them all the more for having chosen to do so. Those who have chosen not to know Christ in me have missed out badly and that is their fault not mine.

Thanx for your replies so far.

I appreciate that if your past career has been as a missionary, pastor, preacher etc ... then it would be included in your CV - as it should.

What I had in mind is people applying for jobs outside the "Ministries" as it were. E.g. engineer, salesman, postman etc ... In your countries is your religion included in your CV or resume?

Here in the UK it would more often than not be frowned upon if it's included.

Not just the UK...the whole world; as Jesus said it would be...

18"If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. -John 15

Don't ever try to hide who you are in Christ because...

14" If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified. " -I Peter 4

No because this is an area where discrimination might take place. And in the US, only certain forms of discrimination are acceptable. Being a Christian is not one of them.

Mine doesn't state I'm a Christian, but on my resume for the last job I applied for one of my references was an Associate Pastor of a church we had attended and were quite involved in and I think, honestly can't recall right now, it had on it that I led worship at that church at the time.

Mine does not include any inclination to religion or being Christian whatsoever; partly bc our teacher told us it is against the rule to talk about religion bluntly AND bc I personally believe that people should see Jesus thru us not thru advertisement.

I included the fact that I had been to Bible College on my CV but not the Bible College qualification because it wasn't relevant to my present employment. However, because I had to account for the year I was at college, I included this information on my CV. No one has asked me about my faith during interviews however.

Due to my hubby's employment, we have to move about from time-to-time and I have included this information in all my updated CV each time we have moved and I haven't found it a hinderance in getting interviews or jobs.

I hope to never have to use a resume again, but if I do, I am not ashamed of the Gospel. I just pulled my resume up, because it is on this computer, and my faith is all over it because of my past volunteer work and the list of training. Besides, it was specific for a position in a church, which I continue to maintain .
