My 2 and a half year old like to watch his daddy play Call of Duty 2 and 4 on the PC. This game is rated T for teen. My hubby plays the multiplayer version with his friends on his clan's server. His clan is "family friendly" and doesn't use bad language over the mic or anything.

For those of you who don't play, COD2 is WW2 based-Russian, British & American soldiers running around shooting Nazis. COD4 is modern day and is the Marines running around shooting terrorists...Haven't figured out if they are Russian or Muslim yet.

It's not some guy running around mugging people and stealing cars like Grand Theft Auto. So, it doesn't glorify that type of violence. If anything, it would glorify joining the military.

Poll Question: But, I'm wondering if it still too violent for a 2 and a half year old?

Thanks!

I actually just finished COD2 last night. Very fun historic shooter. As for COD4, I've yet to play it, so I cannot comment on the graphical content contained within the game.

COD2 is intensely violent in same aspects of the game, mostly when it comes to explosions and such. It isn't an overly blood game, although it is contained during some sequences which involve any form of killing. Language is also something to be careful of, and probably the main concern.

I would recommend that both he and his dad play together, maybe when your husband is playing, he can let him sit on his lap and let him play some of the less violent aspects of the game.

COD4 is some what violent...and such I mean its a shooting game.. what else do you expect.... plus guys talk alot "guy" stuff on there and dont always use the best language... even in clean clans... >_> things slip out... when people are angry.

When children are young they pick up so much more then you think they would... I taught a 3-4 year old sunday school class and some of the things those kids did and said... there parents were shocked about it...and in some ways embarassed... when they are young like that they asborb so much... its actually quite amazing.

So use good judgement and pray about it.

Im a solid cod4 player (by which i mean i play ALOT), and i think its safe to say that given the right setting, someone able to distinguish right from wrong could play and still hold the morals taught by parents. That would be, say, an early teenager. For a two/three year old, it would seem to be more of a "watch daddy do something" than "watch people get shot". Still, its a war game. The developers make their money on getting people to play more through enjoyment, frustration, and yes, even addiction.

To simplify: Depending on what values you and your family hold, you may want to find a more child friendly game as your son grows and is able to distinguish between watching daddy play games and watching daddy shoot people on the computer.

Hope this helps :)

I get to teach some history to my kids during these games. Of course yours will have to be older for that!

The single-player mode of COD4 is way too intense for ... well anybody short of an adult, honestly. I played it last October at 27 and it got to me in some places. It's very cinematic and raises some difficult questions that I don't think teenagers are equipped to answer, much less children.

The multiplayer is just running around shooting other people and if you're okay with that, there's nothing to worry about.
