Well I've been in churches where they use drums. Perhaps you would be better of asking the person/people who told you they had a demonic background.

Perhaps it's what is played on the drums as opposed to the background that is the problem?

ENJOY PLAYING THOSE DRUMS!!! The drum beat is NOT demonic. Now, it CAN be used demonically in some kind of satanic ritual or something like that. But ANY INSTRUMENT can be used demonically in music: guitar; keyboard; etc. In fact, ANYTHING can be made sinful, if the person using whatever item is using it for something other than the glory of God.

Another example: Some Christians will say that playing cards is wrong. My family plays card for fun. We do not gamble money which is to be used for living; giving to God's causes; groceries, etc. It's simply a game like Monopoly; Trouble; Scrabble; etc.

Once again, anything can be made sinful. There are certain things that are automatically sinful, and you'll find those listed in Scripture.

I also believe that, in the Old Testament, reference is made to "... praise him on the high sounding brass; praise him on the high sound cymbal ..."

So, I say, PLAY ON FOR JESUS!!!!

Yes. Drums are the only instruments used in my church.

There are no bad instruments. The only thing that can be bad is the music or type of music that is played.

Peace,
Anne

Yes. I would agree - there are no bad drums. Only bad drummers.

Forget the paranoid urban legends and just play.

How can a type of music be bad? Only lyrical content can be labeled as "bad" and even at then different people interpret lyrics in different ways.

"praise him with tambourine and dancing,
praise him with the strings and flute,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals."
Psalm 150:4-5

You can at least play the crash cymbals, the high hat, and the ride. :)

We can be legalistic and bound by fear or we can worship with free hearts.

Play those drums! I know Martin Neil, one of the top drummers in the UK, and he put together a worship night with just drummers a few years back. There were 250 drummers (with full drum sets) in a huge amphitheatre. They played prophetically and he said it was wonderful. They'd sometimes play at the same time and sometimes with one starting and the others copying. He said the presence of God was so strong there as the drums were played out prophetically through the evening.

Let me ask you this? Who came up with the first drum? Some pagan in Africa? I think not.
Try this on:
The rainbow. Is it evil? But the homosexual community has taken it on as their own. So two generations down the road when no one remembers where it came from... is it evil. No God made it as a covenant between Himself and the earth and all who live on it. Miriam banged away on her tambourine after crossing the Reed Sea. Must have been some pagan Egyptian jungle beat.
Play on for the glory of God!!

Ha! Yeah - to some extent, I'd say you're right. The (electric) kit we use at our church was out of necessity because of stage space and volume control. I don't much like playing it, though.

Once upon a time, there was a young Christian who thought that the music at his church was boring. Too stodgy, not "real". So, he set out to write some of his own. He was roundly condemned, they said his music was of the devil. He persevered anyway... Oh, his name? Martin Luther.

Dedicate your instrument to the Lord and let the closed-minded prattle on about backbeats, jungle pagan rhythms, and the like.

It isn't just drums! Many things have been deemed "inappropriate" at best, such as: Minor Keys, Guitars (acoustic and most certainly electric), Electronic Keyboards (although in the case of electronic organs I might agree -- Hammond B3 with Leslie cabinet excepted, of course), Video projection, theater style seats, Jeans... well, you get the picture.

Worship is personal AND corporate. If your corporate worship environment says 'no drums' then find one that says 'wail away'.

If you drum for God, they're a worship instrument! I'm a drummer, and one of my favorite verses in Psalms says "praise him with a clash of cymbals!"

David praised with the drums. well parts of drums.

if something praises God, is it bad? I believe only if you take it on as an idol.

Drums are the ONLY instrument in current use that is a biblical praise instrument. Not pianos or organs, not guitars or synths. (and if you think trumpets are - the ones in the bible are Shofars - animal horns with no valves) There are 2 harps: the 10 string and the 22 string; but we have no idea how they were tuned.

So that leaves drums.

Rock on bro!

Don't see a problem with drums at all. I've seen them used with a lot of worship teams.

It may be a sin only if..... you need more cowbell!

It also has Christopher Walken in it. It's about a band called Blue Oyster Cult.

(that ought to be enough for a you tube search )
