What do you think of such commercials? Do you relate to them, or does it give you an ickiness in your stomach instead? I am thinking of a Yoplait commercial in particular where the women are in a spa eating the yogurt talking to each other on how good it is. Honestly, it the commercial makes me cringe! Do you relate to these commercials or do they repluse you as well?

they are so stupid. i can't stand pretty much any commercial, but the ones aimed toward women are especially dumb. you know what i hate the most, is how in every commercial the woman is made out to be smart and succesful, while the husband is just a bumbling idiot who cant do anything.

I remember a commercial a few years ago for some feminine napkin company. The lady on the commercial was hopping around with her daughter and wearing white pants. Not so realistic for being on that time of the month.

I see commercials as a reason to surf or mute the t.v. I don't care who they are aimed at.

Guys act in those commercials because it is a paycheck, probably badly needed paycheck. Also, it is not unheard of that a guy gets his big break being seen in a commercial. The commercials that make me cringe aren't the "women's commercials" but the ones on the SPIKE channel geared towards older teens and young men. (((shudder))).

ORIGINAL: crh737 All commercials are geared towards women and children because that is the consumer market. It is a known fact that the majority of shopperare women and then children who plead mommy for the "must haves!" I was coming in to post this. Disposable income is in the hands of women and teenagers.

Disposable income is in the hands of women and teenagers. True. Guys may spend money on big ticket items but most of the people in the grocery and department stores and malls are women and teens.

a woman is bouncing around in white pants during 'that time of the month' Sure, what better way to show women that their product works so well? If it worked like all the others, she wouldn't dare.

I pretty much try to avoid commercials whenever possible. I think that the ones geared towards women tend to be kind of campy and cheesy - but not any more than the "Just For Men" hair dye commercial (the one where because the man has black hair and the woman is immediately all over him). I agree that the feminine products commercials are probably the silliest, followed by the commercials where the women are so excited about soup or fabric softner. The Yoplait one seems to be trying to be hip or something (I'm not sure). But maybe the fact that I remember these commercials is the point. Even if it is campy - I do remember that if I'm on diet, I should consider Progresso soup. I do remember that Yoplait is a "girlfriends" kind of yogurt. I remember Always wings. I remember that Just for Men is supposedly attractive to women. And I remember the Snuggle's bear falling into a big pile of freshly-washed laundry. I don't actually buy any of those products - but I remember it. So maybe that is the strategy?

If you don't remember the product name, the commercial is a failure. Sometimes the most clever commercials don't deliver because people remember the story and not the brand. One of the most effective ones was about a car and they used a tune popular on the radio at that time. Must have cost them alot of money to use a current tune. But everytime they played that song on the radio, I thought of that car!

Actually, I watch such little t.v. these days that when I wanted to discuss commercials with my drama students, I had to go online to find some. WWW.hasbro.com has some nifty commercials for kids. I was trying to get the students to look beyond what they initially saw and try to figure out why the product was presented the way it was.

I dispise all advertising aimed at women that tries to tell them that they need to change their bodies so men will find them attractive. One in particular is for a weight machine and the spokeswoman says something like... "I am 56 and I just love my new smokin' hot body." Ugh!!! I hate how almost all diet commercials are aimed at women. Commercials feed on insecurities. If they can find that spot that we are insecure about, they figure we will bite just to fix that problem, whatever it may be. It really irritates me that women are being sold as sex objects... as if that is our purpose in life. Um... no! As far as commercials in general go, I think all the ED commercials should be banned, particularly during the "prime time" hours that are supposed to be family time.

Ah, commercials ... another reason I'm glad I almost never watch television.

I don't like the commercials for disposable underwear (for adults or children), disposable diapers or femine hygiene products where they pour a blue liquid onto the product to prove how absorbent it is. I'm sorry, but if something blue is coming out of your body, you need a doctor- not a diaper!
