My cell leader does not ask me to play guitar for cell. I want to get a job which I am able to travel . She disagree because then I might not be able to attend church regularly. She asks me to commit to a ministry . i said that I could volunteer when I could but she said that it is a commitment and since it is a ministry my timetable should be arrange around the ministry and not around my career. She always say something which makes me feel uncomfortable like I am self centered, selfish , attention seeking, complainer. I know that I have all those negative traits but does it help to point that out in that way. I feel discouraged and want to change church to land with a more encouraging leader. I also would like to play guitar for the cell and church if possible. True my skills are not that good but I am keen to learn and be better. Besides my current church is too big and there are too many talents so that is why they dun ask people to serve in the music ministry. I know playing the guitar should not be a priority but I enjoy it and want to use it to serve =(

Only you know if the things she is saying are true or not...we, of course, can't tell from one post and from hearing only one side. But, if I can, I'd like to ask you some questions: Do you have a problem with commitment to ministry obligations..do you show up when you say you'll be there and are you consistent? Have other things besides your work interfered with your church attendance and ministry involvement in the past? Seriously, everyone and their brother want to be up front leading worship. It is up to the leader to decide if they are good enough and more importantly, mature enough in the Lord to do so. I'm not saying that you do this, but he worst thing in the world is to have a "grandstanding" worship leader who draws attention to him/herself rather than drawing attention to the Lord. Just being "good at it" does not qualify one to lead worship. How old are you and how long have you been a Christian? Edited to add last question.

ORIGINAL: aposfus I want to get a job which I am able to travel . She disagree because then I might not be able to attend church regularly. Good questions from Kat. But, IMO, this (above) is none of her business. Unless you specifically asked for advice on the job idea, I guess.

In early 21st century America there are plenty of people who don't have the luxury of working a normal 9 to 5 job. If this is a job you need to pay your bills, etc. I would recomend taking it.

Well actually it is easy to land in an administrative 8-6 job in my country. The harder thing to find is a job which requires travelling I don't have problem with fulfilling my promise. When I tell my leader I will be there, I will be there on time. I almost never pull out of anything I have committed. It's just that in the past I was very discouraged once and pull out of a major ministry. I didn't want to but my self confident was an all time low at that point. Other than that when she call me for short term project I always say yes . For cell , you don' t require much talent. It seems that she just wants to stop me from playing that is all. And she asked this other gal who is terrible at guitar playing to play (this gal is not even passionate about guitar) Nothing has really interfered in my church attendance because in the past I was doing admin. But now I am looking for a career change. My cell leader said that I didn't know what I want and should not have change so fast. Well she might be right but it hurts all the same. WHy can't she be more constructive. Doesn't mean that i want to continue being ignorant. I am 26 and am born in a Christian family

I would not ask her for any advice in the future, if she discourages you. From what I have read, you seem to be committed. I would get advice from here on out from someone who can support and encourage you, not from someone who discourages you. She sounds toxic, which is not a good thing.
