What do you know about advertising on Craigslist? I know we aren't allowed to advertise here and I didn't see a real estate forum as I have a fetish for real estate.

Be very careful about Craigs list. What you see is not always what you get. Scrutinize the posts on Craigs list very carefully. There are a lot of fakes phonys and frauds out there as welll as ligitimate listings as well.

I have my house posted on Craig's List. The posting instructs folks to call my realtor for a viewing. That is why we hired a professional. I assume they are well aware of scams going on in real estate. I also journal the story of my "house on the market" experience. One, so folks can see more of our home, and two, so my family can see what is going on.

I have used Craigslist successfully. I have also been extremely frustrated by some of the ads that people place on Craigslist. For example: One ad said 3 houses for sale $xxK No mention of how many bedrooms, bathrooms or any features of the homes. No mention of location or even zip code. Some ads state other things that are of no help to a homebuyer such as how much rent could be charged or how much profit is possible if the place is fixed up. Anne

what would you like to see on a craig's list ad? That would be helpful to know.

I love Craigslist. I agree with what spiritchsr1 said though. You do have to be very careful. Don't ever take money orders via mail or anything like that. I have bought my kids' clothes on craigslist, bought cars, found an apartment for rent, and met my hubby on craigslist. I have sold cars and things I've fixed up. I also put an ad up for my neighbor for his tree service business.

I think it's about like anything, you have to be careful. My husband just finished a roofing and siding job he landed on Craigslist.

Wow! I'm impressed with your responses! I've heard about it since moving to this area and have looked at it, even placed an add for our house in Guadalajara last night. I'm taking the initiative and just wasn't sure if I was doing it right or what? I'd like to see your add car2ner! Maybe you could check out mine and tell me what you think. It's listed under real estate in Guadalajara, Mexico. I posted the info off of our realtor listing and it's all in Spanish. I didn't say much in English. I'll take any tips! I'm so emotional! I love our house and I love living in Guadalajara but my husband's job is an hour away and he'd like to live closer. Geesh, if we could trade/swap houses with someone out by his work, that'd be great! What does everyone think about house swapping in the states? It's common here in Mexico. I was shocked to see them start it in the US! Anyone live near Redding, CA want to swap a house with me in Mexico! LOL I don't think we're allowed to do anything like that here so I'm just kidding but I would love any tips to help me out with this Craigslisting deal. Steelmagnolia's life wouldn't exist without it! Couldn't be all that bad! Kinda like getting the hang of E bay, no?

Craigslist is not a place for anybody, even Christians to be on. There are dishonest people on there, when people answer ads. I've seen instances when people had their items stolen when the wrong type of people answer these ads. Christians need to be vilgant and if possible, stay away from it. Go place ads to a reptuable place, like a newspaper.

gaylel, there are dishonest people everywhere in this world and we need to be careful but obviously by the testimonies here, it's been a success to believers too.

funny girl, I think I found your ad... if you haven't added a photo, please do. I never thought of adding a layout of the house, that is a good idea that I haven't seen anyone else do yet. BTW, scammers read the paper as well.

We have had great success with Craigslist selling appliances and furniture we were selling. You do need to be careful and only give your address to people interested, after neg. a price. Just like the internet and the world there are dishonest people everywhere. Be sensitive to the Holy Ghost when dealing with people, that is the key.

We've bought and sold things on craigslist. I will only deal in cash (buying or selling), and usually try to meet people in a neutral place, or when my hubby is home. Obviously the cash only wouldn't work for bigger items. Unless it is a REALLY good deal on something I always prefer to e-mail rather than call.

There are dishonest people anywhere you go, and sometimes, people don't have the finances to advertise in the newspaper, so a free service like craigslist can be a blessing. As I said, my husband just finished up a roofing and siding job he landed on it and that 10K was a tremendous blessing!

If you are foolish then you will be swindled but if you are wise you can make some extra cash, find jobs, or even well priced furniture/clothes/cars/etc...

Like everything else be careful!! Where I live a pastor's daughter got killed from someone on craiglists, who posted a job, and when she went , he killed her. Happened last year. But alot of people have done good. I like the garage sales on there. Walk only in fear of the Lord.

Definitely post pictures! Honestly, I don't even look at a lot of posting unless there are pictures. That makes it a little more legitimate for me. My contractor husband has also gotten jobs off of craigslist. Both from ones other people have posted needing help, and from people calling him when we post his business info. If I ever buy anything, we always meet in a public place, and usually my husband comes with me.

My son just showed me the Craigslist website. He just found an awesome apartment on it. He said that's how most of his friends found theirs too. From what I understand, its a highly used and recognized site.

I just looked at The Best of Craig's List. EEW> it is not representative of what Craig's list would call the best but what readers call the best. There is a disclaimer that you may not appreciate some of what is on the list. That is an understatement...BUT that being said, I did see a funny ad for a space ship, one for a lazy boyfriend, and another for a ghost in a bottle. In the meantime, I reposted my ad for my house. Each time I rewrite the ad it get a little better I think.

Talking about scammers.....I just checked craigslist for the Nashville, TN area just for the fun of it, and found THIS gorgeous violin for a knockout deal! Only the seller is like 11 hours away, so, I decide to go a little closer to home and searched the Grand Rapids, MI Craigslist, and oh my! LOOK WHAT I FOUND!! On a hunch, I went to the Miami, FL Craigslist, and YUP, I found THIS. SCAMMER! (Edited to get my links right! )

Yeah, I never do anything by mail on craigslist. I put an ad up to sell my hubby's PSP and a guy from GA (I'm in OR) wanted me to mail it to him and he would send me a money order. So, I said if he really wanted one he could look at the links I sent him which were links to ads for PSPs in his area for the same price. He never responded.
