We have a local discount bread store/outlet store whatever they are called, but I have never been to it. With the prices of bread at Kroger I am tempted, but would like to get others opinions. Does anyone shop at them and like them?
Is the bread past the "used by" date?
Are there other useful discounted food items sold there?

I guess it would depend on how quickly your family goes through a loaf of bread.
I typically can find bread, even at Kroger (here in Indiana) for between $.69 - $.89 cents if I don't mind if it's considered a day old. But with the way my family goes through bread, it's not a big deal.
We do have a few of those discount/outlet places here too, but just to get to them is out of the way for me - not on my beaten path, so just to go would be a special trip -likely to cost more in gas then it would be just to buy it at Kroger.

I don't know if it was a discount store, but my mom shopped for all bread items at a bread store. She would freeze bread too for when we needed it. I just saw one the other day here in our town, so I was going to check it out this payday.

It's not out of my way I would just have to go a different way if that makes sense so I know it wouldn't cost more in the end because of gas. Some weeks we go through a lot of bread and other weeks not so much. I do freeze bread so I could always make a trip, stock up on the discount bread, and freeze it until we need it.

Depending on the brand associated with the store, they would probably have crackers, snack cakes, and variety type breads like hamburger & hot dog buns, bagels, english muffin, etc,

I do shop at the one in town because they carry the bread I eat and it's a lot cheaper. It isn't quite as fresh as the store but still pretty fresh. If you are freezing it anyway then it is worth the trip.

There's a wonder bread, entemman's & awry outlets where I live. I've been to awry's because it's closer. And no, the breads that they sell are not expired. Some might have a little imperfection like in packaging or too dark, too light colors. They also have some cakes ready for decoration. We buy the individually pack danishes or pastries, they are a lot cheaper. But bread wise, we have a Meijer here that have a long aisle of just bread and I will always find a loaf of bread on sale for a dollar a loaf- usually Meijer brand or Aunt Millie's.

I find the bread at our "bread store" is not past the date and quite fresh. They sell other items besides bread, I just never think to go to that side of town because I have no other reason to go there. If it was on this side I would most definitely get my bread there.

We have a meiher one here. It sells mostly strohman brand stuff. They also have Thomas' english muffins and bagels, entemann's, some snack food and cookies but I'm not sure if the snack food and cookies are discounted. Around here it's usually stuff that is only 2-3 days before the date on the package. Although one time I found my absolute favorite Entemann's donuts there and they still had a week until they expired.
My ds eats the cheap stuff from the grocery store so I still buy that for him. However, my girls don't like it and like potato bread and so I buy that for them there.

We have a Wonder and Nickles store. The Wonder store is a little closer but the Nickles store seems to have better deals.
It's not outdated (they would have to remove if it were) but sometimes it is "close dated" meaning don't get what you can't use in a week, unless you're willing to freeze it.

It's usually not outdated, just surplus or something slightly wrong (with packaging or the like). We have a Little Debbie outlet nearby, as there is a factory here. Other than the snack cakes, of course, they have bread, cereal, granola bars, etc. Lots of boxed and breakfast items.

We used to buy bread at the Wonder store. It's "day old", and there's nothing wrong with it. The store went out of business because there was road construction and it was impossible to get into the parking lot.
HOWEVER--be careful because they do sell other food there that is generally more expensive than you could get at the grocery store. There's that thinking that if it's a discount store, everything must be cheap, but it's not!
Our grocery store has cheap bread for 44c/loaf, so that's what our guys eat. I buy 4 loaves a week. Once it's gone, that's it.
