To have a proper view of life requires a proper view of death. For a Christian, it is the ultimate healing. When I go to heaven, all that I ask is that my ashes be scattered over the local dog park I frequent. That way people can truly say that I have gone to the dogs.

I want to go literally in a blaze of glory. If God would allow... I would like to be a very old man with one of those new jet powered wings that you strap on with it loaded with explosives. Gas her up somewhere over the desert or mountainous area, drop me from a plane and I fly until I run out of juice and then dive for the ground and blow up when I hit.

I think my parents have it right. They are going to donate their bodies to science and after they are done, whatever is left is going to be cremated. The only expense is the ambulance ride..something like 200 dollars. As for any ceremony...I would prefer none. I would hate to see from heaven no one showing up. I am not sure I would have to suggest people to party at my passing. As far as wanting to "be dead" I am not sure this is what we, as christians, should want. Sure being with the Lord will be a lot better than being here and that is very attractive however, I think there is plenty to occupy our time, in His service, here to keep our minds....earthly good.

I think coffins should be painted with adverts from various sponsors: hamburger bars, soft drinks etc ... That would be a fitting tribute to the commercial society we live in. When it's time for me to go; and I'm lying there in my coffin nicely painted with adverts, I would like at least one mourner to say: "I've just seen him move !!!"

I'd like a party, too. My parents insist on having this conversation nearly every visit (we live across the country and visit about 4 times/year). This visit mom showed me the card in her wallet with all of the crematorium information on it! Ugh! I know it is important to them to have everything squared away-- they don't want us to worry about anything. We finally had to agree to go through the house and ask that our name be taped to the bottom of certain things that really mean something to us. There will be no fighting over "stuff." I was creeped out at first, but I get it now. Death is a part of life (unless you are Enoch or Elijah, I guess).

I have told my husband that if I should pass before him, that my most important request be that our pastor speak a bold and clear gospel message at the service. I think funerals can be wonderful opportunity for the saved and unsaved to reflect on the meaning, truths, uncertaintys and cycle of life. All glory to God .

I don't know if it was my mil's request that the pastor present a gospel message at her funeral but he did....I wasn't there ( 1500 miles away ) but my wife said...it offended people greatly. Maybe it was the presentation...I don't know.

All glory to God I have yet to be impressed by any gospel flavored message at a funeral. I do not believe a funeral is the place for it because by all means and purposes, most people get it. The message that impresses most is the life the person lived whether it was for Christ or not. Again, everyone pretty well has a good idea where the dead person went. When a speaker can effectively draw a life summary of a true saint of God, it speaks volumes to souls.

An old pastor of mine used to always integrate the Gospel message into his funerals... and he did a wonderful job... very tactful. (Hope we can do that good ). In fact, I've seen a lot of people receive Christ from God touching them through those messages. On the flip-side... my husband and I had an unusual meeting... and we knew beyond a doubt that God put us together. Before our wedding, God spoke to me and told me He wanted an alter call at our wedding. My pastor at the time, was thrilled... plus it was the first time anyone ever requested that of Him. So after a beautiful testimony about mine and my husbands life with Christ, we had the alter call. And a guest who came with someone from our church, received Christ. Sooooo Cool!!!

My fervent hope would be that my life, which should reflect my faith, reflect the good news that Jesus gave to us.

integrate the Gospel message into his funerals I think the integration is fine but not everyone is fully capable/qualified to do the integration. Last year my neighbor died and requested the speaker preach the gospel message with invitation. It was botched by an attorney who was also involved in an adulterous affair. I was sick to my stomach.

I believe my funeral is being preached by the life I live every day. So of course I want the pastor to give a message that invites everyone there to accept Jesus because there really won't be anything important left to say besides that imo. My kids know exactly what I want they have it in writing and I know my oldest son will handle everything. Instead of feeding my family afterwards (a tradition around here) I would much rather them serve a free dinner to those in need in our community. And instead of flowers I have requested they give gift certificates for groceries to a family in need. That is if anyone wants to give anything. I think it is cruel to tell your family and loved ones not to have tears..as long as we live in the flesh we are going to feel pain, and losing a loved one is one of the most painful experiences on this earth.

I too told my children that because I will be home with Jesus, they should have a party when I die. It will be a going home party! I don't want any wake or funeral. I just want my ashes to be spread in the wind so that nobody will have to come to a plot in a graveyard and cry over a stack of bones.

My only death wish is to suffer and die for Jesus. He has to do some more work on me to get me ready but I pray that He will find me worthy of this. J
