I have seen more bitterness lately. I wonder why? How do you react to them in these forums and in real life?

Well I am sorry you experienced that delivereddarling!

Yes even Christian websites are Not immune from many non-Christian behviours and conducts.

I would say just set boundaries with that person(s), forgive them, pray for them.

We also have the benefit of blocking people who bother us which is unavailable in some other sites.

I am sad to say that even Christian sites are/can be Unhealthy place simply because it is filled with folks who come from all walks of life. But God can see the heart of every individual and that is the bottom line!

I have pretty thick skin...
I just wish I knew the root cause...
I'm a fixer and don't want anyone to carry those burdens around.

OTOH, I have a tendency to pop off too. Sometimes it's reactionary and sometimes it's meant to get their attention because they may not realize how they are coming across.

How do ya'll handle it?

Just lately?(Sorry) Bitterness in my estimation is a lack of our own expectations. I responded to bitterness, anger or sarcasm(or racialism)with either ignorance or a challenge to further obedience; there's no in between with me. There's real hurts out there, don't ever deny one's sympathy however staying(wallowing)in one's sympathy is rarely the path to personal growth.

Bitterness....I would say....is a component to debate. That is what the forums are. Debate.

Do bitter people bother me? Yes, I bother me all the time.

You are sooo not a bitter person.

I've just seen and heard lately, some really bitter people. Nothing is ever right...
Down right, nasty acting.

Sometimes I want to shake them and say, "Don't you remember who you are?"

Sometimes I want to hug them and tell them this time in their life will pass, and then I think, "if you let God be God, it will pass sooner".

I've been a bitter woman before, and I was never more miserable.

Maybe, I'm just seeing more than a few bitter moments.

Still, how do we encourage the bitter ones?

You show them God's love for real.

You cannot fight unrighteousness with unrighteousness.

If you come off bitter with them, sarcastic with them, you do not further God's GLory, your just jumping in the mud with them and then after you get dirty, you want to go back to the root cause, doesnt work.

I agree that we should respond in love.

That does not mean that I will walk on eggshells to spare discomfort.

The truth hurts sometimes.

The truth will set you free, while deception continues to bind.

Sarcasm doesn't indicate bitterness or anger to me, more a disappointment with willful ignorance or gullibility. Paul was quick to use sarcasm with people willing to live below the liberty, gifts, and callings of Jesus by falling for false teaching and fables of the deceived and deceiving. I'm also inclined to use it the same way after an attempt or two to show what the Bible teaches on a matter. Both Jesus and Paul used plain language at times that could have gotten them at least a time-out on many Internet forums.

I agree with almost everything you said.

I do question the sarcasm a little.

I'm an extremely sarcastic person.

I just don't automatically respond with sarcasm though. I have seen people on here, who can't communicate unless it's in a sarcastic tone. I call that bitter, through and through. Sarcasm can be funny and it can wound to the bone.

It's the wounding sarcasm that I call bitter.

Not at all. The cure for bitter people is...a little sweetened lemon juice and a good wine to wash them down with.

I tend to be sarcastic with bitter people.

The type I'm referring to has nothing good to say about the Church (the universal body of Christ), "organized religion," or most Christians because they have been hurt in the past - sometimes the very distant past.

For one thing, this is a forgiveness issue, which is at the heart of very basic Christianity. One cannot get through "The Lord's Prayer" without stumbling into it. Holding grudges, pain, and wrongs (real and imagined) is so un-Christ-like as to nullify the bitter words hurled against most other believers.

For another thing, to avoid being hurt from reasonable or unrealistic expectations we have of believers or even hypocrites, one would have to live alone on an island far from civilization. People disappoint us. Christians are no exception. I have yet to meet a Christian, myself included, that's been saved more than a few years that hasn't been hurt deeply at least once. How we deal with it says more about us than it does about those who we feel hurt us.

We do not get to choose who we "Hang out" with here on the forums, but in the real world I do not associate with bitter, cynical, nor negative folks; period.

Thanks

What do you mean by this?

If I don't like how a conversation is going, I leave.

I'm by no means forced to participate.

If someone is going to be nasty, why would I (or anyone) want to be around that.

I can be around it, if I choose not to take it personally and allow it to be the other person's problem.

There are threads, I purposefully avoid because I have seen nasty behavior from them and even though I have a choice whether I react to it or not, I sometimes don't like how I behave towards them.

I think we always have a choice who we hang out with.

Plus, I can use the block button!

I tried using the "Block" button one time, but it was really hard to keep up with the thread afterwards.

So here i put up with it all, but not in my personal real life.

Thanks
RC

If you have one bitter person on a thread I sometimes enjoy getting under their skin. It's fun.

We are not allowed to have trolls on this forum. But playing with trolls can be fun too.

It's all in "your attitude". Sometimes the devil makes me do it.

RC is right about the block button. Also if you are not logged on their post still comes up.
