I am so mad at Blockbuster! We had signed up with Blockbuster online a year or so ago. We chose them because we got unlimited in-store exchanges, which doubled the number of movies we could rent. Plus we got two coupons for in-store rental of game/movie each month.

Well... after a few months, they discontinued the coupons. Fine. I can live with that. Last month, we went to exchange a movie and were informed *at that time* with no previous notification that we are now limited to 5 exchanges per month. I would be $15 more per month ($35 total) to get unlimited again!

On top of that, anything outside of the mainstream movies sit on our queue FOREVER.

So... we decided since Redboxes are appearing in our town, we'd get our new releases that way, then do a 1 at a time with Netflix for independent/foreign/old movies (since they have a beter selection than BB).

We are paying $8.99/mo with Netflix for 1 at a time, plus UNLIMITED online viewing! I hope this pricing lasts!!

That is odd - we have Blockbuster - we have unlimited exchanges and we still get our coupons. Was there some sort of limited program you origianally signed up for. We have had this for over a year and have gotten our coupons every month - in fact I just got the notification that our monthly coupon is ready.

No. It was not a limited offer. Like I said, we had the plan for about a year, then policies started changing without notice- so watch out!

Did you try exchaning more than 5 movies in April or May? Because that is how we found out about the change. Now, maybe you have the 34.99 plan which alows unlimited exchanges, though, if so, you were being overcharged before, because we were getting that for 19.99/mo up until April!

Same with the coupons... were getting them every month, but that stopped about 5-6 months ago. I asked at the store and they said they are no longer available. I wonder if their policies are different in dif locations/states?

I have read on the net that they target people who have heavy usage (which would fit my family!) for implementing their new policies, but they don't mention that on their website, and it just seems too bizare to be true. I am going to ask what's up if I see the store manager when I return our last two movies.

Just out of curiosity, I checked our billing record. Six months ago, our plan went from $3 without any notification! We never noticed, because I keep track of the movie stuff, and dh keeps track of our checking. He never sees the bill & I had never bothered to look at them... Since it was such a small amount, my dh didn't notice the change.

We use NetFlix, but only have the account "ACTIVE" during the summer months....otherwise, the kids, and us, really don't have time to watch enough to make it worthwhile.
Plus, there's not nearly as much to watch on TV during the summer, usually....(except for "history detectives" on PBS!!!!!)

The COOL thing is that the NetFlix "distribution center" is jsut a few miles from us....so, we get VERY VERY fast "turnaround".....

Also, in summer, they are allowed to stay up later.....we'll be "reactivating" our account soon.

And, my wife & kids go "on vacation" for about a month to her parents place in Arkansas....so, I can catch up on all those movies I have been wanting to see, but my wife doesn't really care to watch.

So... we decided since Redboxes are appearing in our town, we'd get our new releases that way,

Yeah....REDBOX is SO COOL....especially since you can rent/reserve your movie online, and not have to go from place to place looking for a specific movie, and have it be "OUT" everywhere.....

We use netflix and been using it for years now. I tried Blockbuster but then realized that's the reason why we tried netflix. There's not a lot of Blockbuster around here- the nearest is one is about 3 miles and with the price of gas -- the coupons might not be worth it. Also, the last time I checked Blockbuster online, most of their movies did not have synopsis, only the popular titles. So I'm sticking with netflix.

We use Blockbuster, and for the most part we've been really happy with it. We initially signed up for the service about a year ago and we were paying 14.99 for two at a time in the mail with unlimited in store exchanges and one coupon a month for a game or movie rental. Now we pay 16.99, but we still get the unlimited in store exchanges and a coupon each month.

We have rented several TV shows this way, and it works out very well. We get the TV shows through the mail and then exchange them for movies in the store. Often they won't have the TV show we want in the store, but they will have it online.
My husband usually uses the coupon for a game rental. If we just paid for the movies and game rentals each time instead of having the 16.99 plan, we would definitely be paying A LOT more.

I have Netflix and love it because I can rent older movies and TV shows. I've rented pretty much all ten seasons of Stargate SG-1, part of Stargate Atlantis (never got back to that one for some reason), Wild Wild West, MacGyver and The Monkees. I've found that the distribution center I send my DVD back to seems to depend on what I rent -- most of the time it's Louisville, sometimes it's Indianapolis, occasionally it's even my town even though we don't have a distribution center here.

Okay - you got my curiosity up so I started checking out our Blockbuster online account. This is the account we have: 16.99/mo, unlimited mailing, unlimited in-store exchanges, +1 bonus movie or game coupon each month.
I just checked and our coupon is available. We have exchanged more than 5 movies this past month - probably more like 10 or 12.
You may have a point about policies being different in different locations.
I will be watching my account very closely.

Yeah, watch your account closely!

Went I stopped in to the local store to return our last two movies, I asked the manager. He confirmed that he has found that some people there still get unlimited rentals, some still bring in coupons, some have complained about changes, others haven't mentioned anything... Since the on-line service/account is separate from the in-store accounts, he doesn't have information about why and how changes were made. He was surprised that we hadn't gotten notification through mail/email.

He gave me a 1-800 number, but I am not going to call.

Weird Tara, because we've had Blockbuster online for almost 2 years now. We have the $19.99 plan & get 3 at a time, unlimited in store exchanges & 2 e-coupons. I know that the plan changed to only 1 e-coupon and not for games (ours are both for moives/games), but ours never changed. One of the clerks at our store said we were lucky to have started before the plan changed because we got 2 coupons & could use them for games too! I wonder if it is regional OR like you said if they are targeting customers with heavy usage (that wouldn't be us most of the year - maybe in the summer). I would hope it isn't them targeting customers - that would be wrong! If you are abiding by your terms, why should you be penalized. If I were you I would call & complain! Even if there's no way you'd go back to them! I think they should know how you feel! BTW - our cost did go up $3 but we were notified of it beforehand.

We use Netflix!

Why? Because they have an unlimited plan for 14.99 (2 movies at a time, unlimited how many you can rent a month, unlimited time to keep them, no fees of any sort except the monly 14.99) and you can also watch movies online! And it's SO easy! You just add movies to your queue they send another one each time you send one back, and you can edit the order the movies are in in your queue.

We use Netflix. I love it because it has a much larger selection than local rental stores do, and you can find a lot of tv shows and old movies.

We have been using Netflix for about a month now and have the $16.99/month plan which is 3 DVD's at a time. I love the selection of old movies and classic TV shows. We watched National Treasure II the same week it came out on DVD. What a deal!

I use Netflix.

I actually stopped any business dealings with Blockbuster about a year ago after persistent and continued billing problems over several years. Every single time I rented a movie, I got a letter in the mail saying I owed a late fee of $2.12 (yes $2.12 every time) and if I didn't pay within 10 days my account would be turned over to collections. However, if I brought the letter to the store and paid, I would get a free movie rental. Yep. The first time it happened, I was alarmed, but I took the letter in and paid the fee. Got my free rental. Then got the same letter for the free rental! I let this go on several more times as I tried to get Blockbuster to figure out the problem, but they never could seem to and I finally gave up.

we have netflix -3 at a time, unlimited rentals and unlimited online viewing. the movie selection for online viewing has gotten much better since the program started. at first it was all b movies and some tv shows (which i actually don't mind..i have loved getting caught up on some television stuff) but now they are starting to put some newer movies out. you still won't see anything brand new on the instant viewing, but maybe after it's a year or two old they will start putting them up.

at any rate, with 3 movies at a time and the online content, i have a lot of options of things to watch, so i am not disappointed at all.

i have been with netflix since 2001.

I discontinued Blockbuster Online last year when they changed the service plans and limited in-store exchanges.

Using Netflix now, just one-at-a-time. The turn around is about a day faster than Blockbuster was. Netflix really does have more foreign films and anime. I think I had pretty much exhausted most of the good anime from Blockbuster Online over two years.

We do occasionally rent new movies on DVD from Blockbuster at the store.

We use Netflix. We had signed up a few years ago and really liked it. We cancelled our account after awhile simply because we'd watched all the new movies and were having trouble coming up with anything else we wanted to see, so we decided to let them build up again. We just subcribed again, and were thrilled that the price actually went down from the last time we'd used them. This time it's $8.99 a month instead of $10 a month. We can't afford to get the library every week to get videos, so we just go once a month for books now instead.

I love Netflix, super fast turn around here in Los Angeles. I put two things in mail yesterday and new stuff shipped today, they will be here tomorrow, rather today since it's 3 am Friday morning..

We've never had customer service problems. The only problem ever is the occasional scratched to heck disc.. How some of them get past inspection boggles my mind. BUT you report it defective and they send you a new one immediately, before you send the messed up one back.

We have the unlimited plan because we like to watch tv series as well as movies and can juggle the queue appropriately/better with unlimited.

Instant View has been a life saver when I've been house sitting. I can watch stuff on my laptop and they keep adding more and more stuff.

Now that we have a baby due any day I have put sooo many more tv series in there that I've been wanting to watch, a TON of stuff from BBC and a TON of older stuff that I've never seen on Blockbuster.

I hate Blockbuster with a passion so I will not do business with them ever.

Also, for us, we hate the idea of going to a physical store.

Why? Lack of time/energy.

Hate it when they don't have what I want.

Dealing with nasty people.

I love Netflix.

I think the term refers to the DVD rental vending machines that are in some supermarkets (in this area, it's Kroger).

Yep. They just started popping up in my area at local groceries and gas stations. It is $1 to rent a movie. You scan your credit/debit card, pick your movie, it pops out... you bring it back and slide it back into the machine and it scans it instantly.
