Before I say anything I am just giving my opinion, I will not use any quotations. Straight from my mind. Please respond with the Bible about this issue if you want.

I was reading about a Christian leader being attacked and one of the reasons he was attacked was because they said he was using Christianity to divide the country/others.

Personally I thought that's what Christianity is about. It Is about preaching the truth of God, and that the Truth will divide. It will define the good, and the evil.

I thought Christianity was against secularism, other religions, cults. Isn't the word of God supposed to divide? Aren't we warned about that?

Christianity is not supposed to unite itself with beliefs ideas that it knows to be false.

I believe Christianity is one of the greatest uniters, among us fellow Christians. It unites us as believers, but the world hates us. Christianity is not supposed to Unite the world, but the believers.

Now so everyone will think I'm a screwball,

Maybe Daniel didn't mean the "Abomination of Desolation", but the Obamanation of Desolation.

Shalom,

Ehud

You are correct.

Christianity will divide believers from unbelievers, but Christ should ideally unite believers.

The reason there are divisions within Christianity is that many choose man-made doctrines over the Word of God, and many do not rightly interpret the Word.

Hi asmsw....I know you are speaking of Dr. dobson. I sent a letter in defense to the website that was using Christianity and support of "you know who" to gather signatures against him. I would be glad to share the website. PM for the link, since it is off topic to your question "Does Christianity Unite or Divide?"

This is my last post tonight and it's late. So to make this short. I agree with what you've said thus far. You are NO screwball...I know one when I read one...LOL

I will try to get back to this thread tomorrow evening. I'm looking forward to others replies, too.

I agree with OP.

However, there are some who in the name of Christianity cause division and attempt to use IT as if it were a weapon. The word is like a two edged sword but we must be wise is our delivery.

I agree with you 100%!! We, as Christians, have got to stop listening to the voices of this world and start listening to the voice of God! These are perilous times and we have to keep our eyes on Him. I, for one, do not want to be led astray by flowery speeches and pretty words. We need more people with the faith of Dr. Dobson who is willing to stand up for his Savior at any cost. We have become as chaff that blows with the wind. It's time to stop be wishy-washy Christians. It's time for us to rise up and speak the truth of His Word! Its time for us to let our love for Him to be apparent and our allegiance to Him be strong! My love to all my brothers and sisters on this forum. May we unite as children of the most high God and remember whose we are.

In Christ, Mary

In answer to your question, you are right---it does both. Jesus said, "Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided father against son, and son against father, mother against daughter, and daughter against mother. . ." Luke 12:51-53 And He said, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another." John 13:34-35

The only way I differ from you is in what you said is the statement above. I don't view Christ (and therefore those who follow Him and His teachings) as being against secularism, etc. Although it certainly divides, I view Christ as FOR all men. And for an example, I would give Paul at Mars Hill. He could have ranted about all of the ungodly worship going on, with all the altars to the multitude of gods that were worshiped there. He did not. Instead he found one altar to an unknown god and said this was the one he wanted to tell them about! He loved mankind and wanted them to be saved and come to Jesus. He found the place of unity, the place where he could connect with them. He looked for the opening that might let Christ into their world. And that is what we are to do. We are divided from the unbelieving but always longing and looking for that place to bring Truth, Jesus, to them.

Bless you for your question and thoughts.

I also agree... and I also agree with this comment. There are many wolves in sheeps clothing prowling around causing division within the body.

The one that will be the "Great Uniter" will be the Anti-Christ. He will be an individual that takes the great religions and merges then into a single humanistic gospel. Apostate churches will rush to join. Ones that insist on remaining true to the faith will be considered mean and unloving. So, to answer yout question, the true church is a divider.
