My dog used to just go gaga over Booda Bimple bones. I bought them for her all the time in all kinds of different flavors for years. But since she tended to be possessive of them, I stopped giving them to her when I got a cat-- didn't want a fight to break out. So she hasn't had any in about 3 or 4 years, although she has had the occasional rawhide that she likes fairly well. In fact, the last time she had a rawhide bone-- about 5 months ago-- she got really possessive and we had to have what I call an "attitude adjustment," meaning I had to re-establish myself as the alpha dog by looming over her until she submitted.

Well. I decided to treat her to a Bimple Bone last week... but she won't chew it! She gets excited when I ask her if she wants her bone (she knows that word), but when I put it down she sniffs it and then just sits and stares at it. When I tell her cheerfully to chew her bone, she goes submissive and rolls over on her back.

Did I break my dog?!

if your dog is happy and wagging her tail, don't worry if she wants to give her toy to the boss dog. BTW, my dog loves to chew on raw carrots. They are inexpensive and satisfies that need for crunchy. She gets happy when I make salads (and the cat probably could care less about them)

What happens if you walk out of the room? Maybe she is acting submissive while you are right there. If you give her permission to have the bone and then walk out, she might relax and enjoy it.

I also was wondering how old this dog is? Are her teeth still good? Maybe she just can't chew it like she used to.

Hmm, maybe I should leave it down all day when I'm working and see if she's chewed it when I come back. Usually, if she doesn't chew it within about 15 minutes, I pick it up.

She's 9, but her teeth are in good condition. She has a nervous habit of chewing on her feet (a Maltese thing, from what I hear), so I thought going back to bones would cut down on that.

Thanks for your ideas, everyone!
