This article is about a month old, but I was listening to the news last night on how it's still ongoing, and the assassinations of police are continuing. http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/26/world/americas/26mexico.html?hp It's pretty terrifying. Makes you wonder if this sort of thing will jump the border, as the cartel gangs are already doing stuff like crossing the border to kidnap Americans for ransom (http://www.myfoxla.com/myfox/pages/Home/Detail;jsessionid=BD2FB5987CFC155F5B47DFF7A4C07E42?contentId=6535812&version=6&locale=EN-US&layoutCode=VSTY&pageId=1.1.1&sflg=1), their gangs are firmly entrenched in many of our cities, and they have joined forces with many homegrown gangs. Most of their funding comes from drug users in the US. The US has sent $400M to Mexico so far this year to try to help the police win (http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2008/06/28/2288804.htm). Various border watch sites claim that the cartels are already buying politicians and businesses here. How long before we see this on a large scale in our country?

This kinda reminds me of my then-prospective thread, questioning if Mexico is now the new Columbia, with its own Cali and Medellin cartels not too far from the Arizona/California/Texas/New Mexico border! Well that, and the now perilous destinies, occupational hazards of the "narco-corridos," baladeeros who serve as these singing court poets for the Mexican drug cartels--ONLY to be caught up in the bloody turf wars between rival gangs and/or the police and military (provided the latter 2 aren't as corrupt on a consistent basis).

Wouldn't surprise me at all, if in the next decade it spills over. -charles
