Our 5y/o is bright and inquisitive. He loves to read and has read his Beginner's Bible from cover to cover more than once. He is truly interested in knowing God, His Son & His Spirit. He is full of questions! He struggles with "hearing God's voice". At his age, how would you help him to understand that concept?

Wow! That is awesome that, at such a young age, he is so inquisitive. I have been having this converation with a co-worker friend of mine. Granted she is not 5. Sometimes people (even kids) think that God's voice is always audible or the type that they definately "know" that is is God. As I tried to explain to her (maybe it would work for your son), sometimes hearing God is listening to that voice or thought in your head. For my friend an example was when you just can't get someone off your mind so you call them and they were in the middle of a crisis and really needed to talk to someone. That was God telling you to call them. Maybe for your son, an example could be something like, sharing his toys or not reacting when one of his friend is being mean to him. It is that "feeling" of when to do the right thing.

Thanks, daisies4u! That is what I have attempted to explain to him. He is a little fixated on the literal meaning, however. He continually asks me when he will "hear God". I have tried several tactics, the one getting the best understanding was when I said, "Well, you probably won't hear (big booming voice) TANNER, BE NICE TO YOUR BROTHER! Instead, you will hear your own little voice in your head that you already know how to hear." I went on to explain about the bible being another way God speaks to us and that is when he really gobbled up all he could read, lol. He still asks me how he can hear God, though. What am I missing in this child's question?

Have you asked him if he thinks he might have already heard God?

No, Manda, I haven't. That is a great question! I am going to ask him that.
