I noticed that the SGMA has announced the top 10 songs that are nominated for the Harmony Honors Song of the Year that will be awarded on 4/22/08. I realize that the Harmony Honors are being giving about 5 months before the SN fan awards, so these lists may cover a little bit different time periods. However, I think it is interesting how different this list is from the SN fan award top 10 song list. My question is which list do you think best represents the top 10 songs.

Singing News Fan Awards:
Holy Shore (Perrys)
I Choose (Ivan Parker)
I’ve Been Changed (Legacy Five)
If You Only Knew (Inspirations)
It Means Just What It Says (Greater Vision)
Look For Me (Booth Brothers)
Prayin’ Man (Brian Free & Assurance)
The Great I Am Still Is (Triumphant Qt)
What We Needed (Kingdom Heirs)
You Are With Me (McKameys)

Harmony Honors:
A Greater Yes (Whisnants)
A Little Song Coming On (Three Bridges)
He Erased It (Hoppers)
He Knows My Name (McRaes)
I Can Pray (Dove Brothers)
Last Night (Karen Peck & New River)
Livin' In The Rain (Jeff & Sheri Easter)
Orphans of God (Talley Trio)
Strike Up The Band (Legacy Five)
You're Still God (McKameys)

It looks like most of the SNFA are for male quartets/trios and the HA are more country sounding groups with alot more women in them.

While it would be tempting to answer purely on a subjective basis (saying I like the songs in one list more than the songs in another), I will answer by saying that I think if you counted the total number of people in the country naming a song on one of the lists as their favorite, more people would name as their favorite a song on the SN list.

It's interesting that only two groups appear on both lists and that no songs are on both lists.

I disagree with Daniel. I think as a whole, more people would recognize songs like "I Can Pray" and "Orphans Of God" (crossover) and "You're Still God" and "Last Night" than...say..."I've Been Changed" or "I Choose."

OK, you do have a point with Avalon's version of "Orphans of God." I should have specified that I was referring to the versions recorded by the stated artists.

While we're pulling out selected songs, I wonder if more people prefer "It Means Just What it Says" and "If You Only Knew" or "He Knows My Name" and "A Little Song Coming On."

flyinr--DBM and I have been going to it the whole time I've been online, and enjoying it the whole time.

I said the SGMG harmony honors list. IMO it is a better representation of the biggest hits of the past year.

For me, of the four songs you listed, I prefer "A Little Song Coming On". IMO there is room for everyone of those songs at the Southern Gospel table.

You liked the song? I believe you're the first person I can think of who's told me they like it.

I love "A Little Song Coming On". It was by far my favorite song for 2007. I'm just sorry it did not get nominated for song of the year in the fan awards. BTW, it was number 1 last June, so someone must have liked it.

Speaking generically to the genre, not to this song, chart success typically equals good radio promotion, and has not historically always equaled good songs. So I don't tend to use that particular argument often.

Well there were 7 songs I REALLY liked in each list so I'd say for me they both have a good representation of what I think is good.

I would say it has had more of an impact within the last (10) years than prior.

To be perfectly honest, neither of those 2 lists are loaded with favorites of mine, but "What We Needed" from the SN list is a fantastic song.
