With this weekend being Mother's Day, I just wondered what your favourite memories are of your mother. Something that happened in your childhood? Something that still happens to this day? Some legacy that she left you?

What are some of your favourite memories of being a mother yourself?

Wow, this is hard. But it's what I've been thinking about the last few days. The weekend before Valentine's Day 2000, dd was 6 months old and my mom came over to babysit while dh and I went to the wedding of two of his co-worker. Dd was at that just newly interactive age (or increasingly interactive) and I remember hearing her and my mother just laughing and laughing in the other room when I was getting ready for the wedding. It was the first serious belly-laugh we'd heard out of dd. I know my mom had a ball that night.

She went home the next day (about an hour and a half away). Not to start this thread on a depressing note but my mom was killed in a car accident the following day, Valentine's Day. So almost everything about that weekend and the next few days is burned into my memory. But I focus on the two of them laughing like that.

The greatest thing for me was the sacrifices my mom made to go to my basketball games..esp. when we played in regional tournaments which meant extra arrangements for her.

Her greatest legacy would have to be the way she loved God and her faith.

Wow, I'm sorry about the loss of your mother, but what memories you have of her with your little one.

Buck, what a blessing.

Jaime, what an awesome memory for you too.

Mothers Day is hard for me since Mothers Day '05.
That was the day Mom was diagnosed with cancer.
It was also my youngest sisters' birthday.
She passed away Oct '05.

But the memories I have of my Mom are wonderful.
I remember her laugh, her smile, her hugs and how much she gave of herself, not only to her family but to anyone who needed.

I was very little during my favorite memories. I think I was 3 or 4 because I was not in school yet. I fell down outside and it was very cold and snowy. I could not get up for some reason and cried very hard. I remember fear more then anything. All of the sudden I saw my mom then suddenly if felt safe. My mom carried me home and made me hot chocolate and wrapped me in a blanket.

Kim, I find Mother's Day hard too. My mother passed away 10 years ago this year. Just after Mother's Day of that year, I got a phone call to say my mother was dying in hospital.

I guess my favourite memory of my mother was her taking me into town on Christmas Eve to see the Christmas lights.

My favorite memory of my mom was when she took me to Solvang the summer between 6th and 7th grade. Just me. Which is a huge big deal when you are one of 7 kids! It was sooooo much fun, and it was the first time I saw a live play. It was at a little outdoor amphitheater, and it was Oklahoma.

Favorite memories of my birth mom would be the last time I saw her when I was a child. She picked sis and I up from the foster home and took us to the park and got us chocolate ice cream cones. She didn't get mad at me for dripping ice cream all over my new outfit that she has just bought me.

I loved the new outfit and was afraid of her temper. She hugged me and told me that when we got back to the foster home, I needed to change my clothes and she'd bring the outfit back to me the next time she saw me. She took lots of pictures of us and even asked a stranger to take some pictures of all three of us. I was about 5 or 6 years old.

Fast forward about 25-30 years. She lost the outfit somewhere along the way. We were reunited and she showed me the pictures of that day.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Adoptive mom; September 27, 1972. I was almost 8 and sis was almost 4 and it was the day before mom's 28th birthday. Along with our soon-to-be father and our two soon-to-be brothers, we all went to the park and then out for lunch. The waitress came by and told mom that she couldn't get over how much "her daughters" looked like her. At that time, it was considered a shame and an embarrassment to a child for them to be an orphan. Rather than tell our story and possibly embarrass us, she just politely thanked the waitress.
The first time I called her mom, almost two years later, she cried.
When my birth mom passed away, my mom sent me a beautiful card.
My mother has been gone 23 years, and I wasn't really in her life much for about 13 years before that, regrettably. But I have precious early memories, though vague.
Probably one most of us share is the great care she took of me when I was sick. And she was always there for me. I took great comfort in that.
I also loved her great beauty. Can't help it! Besides my current avatar, check out this picture --->> my beautiful mother.
I just found this thread.
My mom has been gone for 22 years. I still miss her.
Whenever her children were ill, she knelt by our beds and prayed. I can remember her praying for the Lord to give her our pain.
My mom couldn't dance worth a hoot. But it was great to laugh when she tried. She was totally aware of her awkwardness, yet loved the music and moved to it anyway!
Nobody, but nobody cooks like she did.
I remember her taking me to the mall, just the two of us. We would go to the candy counter in Joske's and then head to the food court for hot dogs and an Orange Julius.
Laying on the couch with my head in her lap watching television.
She smelled so good. It was a potent mix of soap, noxema and body lotion and her essence. I can still remember the smell.
How she called me my pet name: Landa
When she was diagnosed with brain cancer, she spent her days praying and writing down prayers for her loved ones.
I miss how she loved me.
