I'm not technologically minded at all, so I need help.

I'm using an old Windows 98 computer. Yesterday we had a power outage of several hours. Didn't get the computer back until this afternoon. Every time I've turned the computer on, it's in safe mode. No choice list to change it to normal mode. Have tried unplugging it to see if that made a difference, but it didn't.

HELP!

Go to Start>Run, then type in msconfig. Look in teh General tab, and make sure that "Normal Startup" is selected. Then try rebooting and see if that won't do it.

I did that, and now it's saying that WZQKPICK.EXE has moved or changed. It asked me if I wanted C:\WINDOWS\REGEDIT.EXE to point to it. I don't understand what's on the screen.

It appears to be a Winzip startup program. Of course you don't need Winzip to start up with Windows, so I wouldn't wory about that. Not too sure what to say about regedit.

When you do get into normal mode, I would look at what programs are in the startup folder and see which ones you really don't need to start up with Windows. Zipping utilities are so light that there is no reason to start them up on the typical PC.

Another thing I would do ASAP--is try to see if any malware has tweaked your computer. If you don't have a good antivirus and antispyware, you can get both at the same time with AVG 8, which is free at free.grisoft.com . Be sure to update the virus defintions and then give it a good scan.

Thanks Paul. I'll try that.
