How do you determine God's timing for making decisions? Is it even possible to know it for sure BEFORE youve made a decision?

Im the type of person the minute I get the idea, I do it NOW...doing it now can leave a mess! right thing to do, wrong timing!

What do you know about timing and God?

There's a few ways to go about this.

First you look in Scripture to see what it says about your decision. If you want to marry a non-Christian, that's easy - God says don't do it. No amount of timing will ever make it right.

If there's nothing in Scripture in detail, is there anything there in principle? If you aren't to be unequally yoked, then deciding about starting a business with a non-christian comes under this - don't do it.

If you can't find anything in principle and you're still wondering then you can go to your pastor or a wise older Christian for counsel. Go to a lot of them; where there are many counselors, there is victory.

If the thing you're trying to decide changes over time, then understand what the changes are and where you best fit in... or never fit in.

And all this time, pray like crazy. God sees you, cares about you, and is waiting to bless you if you'll ask (and often does it even if you don't ask. But I think we miss out on some good stuff because He does want us to ask so we'll understand it comes from Him. Don't forget to thank Him).

I'm one of those people that believe everything in life has a purpose....even our bad decisions. Keep this in mind, though; if you make a bad decision, God is going to confront you with the same situation over and over again until you make the right decision.

I don't believe that you should leave your decision up to God and let Him make the decision for you, because He gave you that opportunity to decide for the purpose of you taking responsibility for it. Giving that opportunity back to Him would be like refusing to participate. It would be like a teacher giving you a test and you handing it right back to him saying that he knows the answers better than you. If we don't confront the decisions God gives us, then we can never grow in spirit and draw closer to Him.

The secret of decision making is to look to God for help. To avoid a cliche'-ish answer, let me elaborate; to make a good decision, we have to take ourselves out of it. We end up making bad decisions when we let aspects of ourselves, such as our feelings and emotions, take control. So to avoid this, we have to take our thoughts beyond ourselves. The best way to do this is to look to God and invoke a spiritual response as opposed to a physical response. You can tell spiritual responses because they take into credit things that are beyond you, such as how other people are effected and reverberating effects.

If a decision you've made ends up falling flat on it's face, that doesn't necessarily mean it was a wrong decision. It just means that what you were meant to learn from it was not the ending result. Just because Peter started sinking after trying to walk on water doesn't mean that stepping out of the boat was a bad decision. If you use each decision, whether right or wrong, as a building block, then technically there is no wrong decisions. As long as you continue to learn and continue to grow, then you're on the right path.

I know that God's timing is usually way slower than mine. That's why patience is a virtue we all need to grow in. Waiting is many times the best course of action when making a decision. (Not always but usually) God will confirm to us what is the right thing to do if we're attentive to Him.

Don't act upon something until you've prayed as God will tell you when and when not to do something...That called relying upon God's wisdom and not our own

Well, with all the great advice, I still made a bad choice in leaving my job!
It was a temp job, but one I could have stayed in for a much longer time (was supposed to be for 3 months, been there 9)

To work with my boss (Im her admin), you need thick skin...which I have and have developed more so being around her...I decided that being treated as second class was not a behavior I wanted to get used to...I did not want to get more comfortable in that environment...

Ive been plotting my 2 weeks notice for a long time, but finally quit abruptly...and now I dont know if Im in good standing w/my agency to get another assignment quickly (I gave them 3 days notice which was misunderstood as me being out )...and I didnt tell them the truth of why I quit as they woould report that back...I just told the agency that Im moving on:(

I need grace. Im nervous about money and I feel pretty bad about not giving a full week or two notice...

I have enough money to cover me only for only 1 months rent (and I might have to tell the bank that I have to skip one payment on my car)...I need another assignment within that time!

Please pray that God has something better for me...at the time, I felt that it wasnt an emotional decision...I thought I needed to leave cold turkey to really leave...and thought it was right timing...:(

I also believe that there is a purpose for everything. I also know that God's timing is not my timing and it is beyond my understanding. As it says in the Bible: His ways are way above our ways and His thoughts are way above our thoughts. However, I know that God never makes mistakes and that He knows what is best for us. Let us trust in Him in everything and when we have to make an important decision, we should always seek Him in prayers and seek His answer and guidance.

I also read this somewhere on Crosswalk (can't remember where ):

"Don't second-guess yourself afterward (after doing what you believe to be God's will). Know that if you've made an honest mistake, God can always transform your situation to accomplish his purposes."

In your shoes I would be looking for a cheaper place to live (parents? friends with a spare room or even a couch?) and sell the car quick and get a junker that you can pay cash for. If you have no job and have bills you can't pay your creditors will be after you with a vengence. Don't go in to debt - it puts the bank's hand in your wallet and they get first pickings and will start legal stuff if you have nothing (and you'll have to hire a lawyer to protect yourself). Lower your standard of living until you get a stable job.

Know anyone with a travel trailer parked in their driveway you could use?

And pray like crazy. What does God want you to do? More importantly, what does God want you to learn? Go talk to your pastor (get one if you don't attend church anywhere) and be sensitive to the possibility that there is some sin messing you up that God wants you to confess and repent so there's no wedge between you and Him. This is not finger pointing, it's just FYI because we all have stuff that God shows us (thank God He doesn't show us all of it at once or we'd be overwhelmed! But He is gracious and deals with stuff little by little so we can hold His hand and toddle along after Him as He leads us in great love and mercy).

True story: I dropped out of college my senior year because I couldn't pass a needed class. I returned to my home town and applied for jobs and got turned down everywhere. My parents said the abandoned grandparents' house was being vandalized and I could live there for free until I got a job (I didn't think about being in danger at the time - not sure this was good advice, but I was in need and it helped at the time). So there I was, in an old, dirty house (I started cleaning it) and no money and no food. But I never missed a meal by more than an hour. A bag of groceries would show up on my step. Or parents would invite me for a meal (I never told them my situation) and they gave me the leftovers (I think they knew, anyway). And I got a call from a company that previously had turned me down to come in the next day to take a test, and they hired me on the spot starting the next day.

Ya never know what God is going to do. So do what is right, trust Him, work as hard as you can, and know that He isn't going to let you starve. And you'll have a story to tell others just like me, and God is glorified.

I am praying for you today, dear one. May God bless and give you wisdom and comfort. (((Hugs)))
