Going to be updating my 5 year old demo to accomodate my extended range, looking for ideas for songs. Want something I can accompany myself on with guitar, something that will show off low and high end, and has a good message. Ive been out of the loop of Southern Gospel, been in Germany the past 7 years. Any help appreciated, and pointing to tabs or downloads is much appreciated too! God Bless!

"Who Can Do Anything?" (originally by the Cathedrals) is perfect for a bass singer as a solo. Simple yet effective. Plus is sounds really good with a guitar!

Is That The Old Ship Of Zion by Kingsmen

Wayfaring Stranger (((SG version))) by TQ. although no SG group can do that one justice w/o bluegrass sound.

I Love To Call by Dove Brothers (((especially if have someone to sing background.)))

There's a great old Imperials song called "My Mind Forgets a Million Things" that featured Armond. It's a great song with a smooth, lyrical melody.

As a bass singer, my favorite song to sing is Gold City's "Under Control".

But I found out you need backup singers, otherwise the the Chorus is too repetitive!

Other good songs I've sang as a solo are:

• Suppertime (Cathedrals)
• Going Home (Cathedrals)
• Mansion Over the Hilltop
• The Judgment (Kingsmen)
• Child Of The Light (Gold City)
• He Took The Hill (Gold City)
• Touch The Hem (Gold City)
• Shake Hands With A Poor Boy (Kingsmen)
• There'll Be No Peace 'Til Jesus Comes Again (Cathedrals)
• When He Was On The Cross, I Was On His Mind (Florida Boys)
• It Is Finished
• Wish You Were Here (Kingsmen)
• What A Day That Will Be
• Farther Along (Dove Brothers)
• One Day At A Time
• On The Wings Of A Dove (Dove Brothers)
• I Hold A Clear Title
• Somebody Touched The Lord
• Then I Met The Master
• There Is A Fountain
• There Is A River
• Jesus Have Mercy On Me (Cathedrals)
• Amazing Grace

Wow, what an abundance of suggestions. Now I need to whittle these down and try to figure out the chords on my flattop.

(sheet music and chords are great too. *wink wink*)

I have also heard a regional quartet, the Phelps Bros., from Eldorado, IL, use a bass solo on "Where The Roses Never Fade". It is beautiful, sung in that range.

I think "Healing Stream" by the Kingsmen is one of the best Bass singer songs out there.
