Hi all: I am currently dealing with oily skin on my face. I use a sulpha wash from the dermatologist, which helps with breakouts, but not the stinky oily skin. I'd appreciate any suggestions for over-the-counter remedies you have used and found to help. Thanks... C

Concerto, If you have a problem with acne, the oily skin itself is only one symptom of the problem. It's either infection or inflammation of the skin. Somehow, the body's reaction to environment, metabolism, hormones or many factors could be causing you to break out. If you are still a teen ager, it is probably acne vulgaris, a common affliction of teenagers. If you are an adult over 30 you might have acne rosacea and dealing with oily skin will not solve the problem. (You can have both.) If it is acne rosacea, oily skin is not the cause. There are some 30 possible triggers, some of which mutually exclude one another. Without knowing more about you, it is difficult to comment fully. Probably, what you don't want to hear is that you need to see a competent dermatologist.

Well, this may not apply to you since I don't know if you are male or female. I had oily skin--even washing twice a day didn't help--I would be oily within a couple hours. I also had bad acne (as an adult). Other symptoms I noticed was that I started having some abnormal hair growth and I stopped having periods. Testing eventually found I had polycystic ovarian syndrome. I use birth control pills and believe it or not, that helped myhormones to start balancing out and my skin has gotten a lot better and less oily. Anyway, to make a long story short: I would go to a dermatologist and also rule out a hormonal problem. I can't give over the counter remedies, because I never had anything that helped until I took care of my hormone problem.

i feel your pain. since i hit thirteen (i'm now 23) my face has been oily. nuetrageena, proactive was too harsh. my skin is very picky but there is an upside to an oily face. my mom had the same thing i do (maybe its genetic) but an oily face helps your skin look younger. i look at least 5 yrs younger than i am. its hard though if you wash your face too much or little ir with me switching facial soap brands can make a face too dry or oily. one lady at work told me to wash her face she doesn't bother with any name brand products (she has a perfect complexion) but to wash she rinses her face with warm water to open the pores and rinses it all off with cold water to close them back up. i never tried this but who knows?
