This thread is dedicated to those musicians/bands most people would see as terrible. Who's your guilty pleasure?

Mine is probably ABBA. That's a ridiculous one. But if you play Take a Chance On Me, you're going to see me dancing! And I'm in my 20's! Absurd.

Please add me to the list of ABBA fans, as well as the Carpenters and all of that other finely crafted pop that was floating around the airwaves during the 70s. Even though I'm a rocker at heart, I still love all of that stuff and display it proudly in my music collection.

ABBA, Tony Orlando & Dawn, The Captain & Tenille. Terry Jacks, Starland Vocal Band, The Bee Gees, need I say more?

I confess...I really like The Cars and Depeche Mode...most synth pop actually. My friends make fun of me for it constantly.

Mine has to be Westlife. They are a boy band from the England area. I love them though!

I love Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow. A lot of their kind of music just makes me feel good. And both of these guys are excellent showmen. I know Neil Diamond's voice is not exactly what one would consider "top notch" but when he performs something he puts his whole heart and soul into it. Same with Barry. I just love that, as I can't stand going to a concert and just watching someone stand at the mike like they are drugged out or something. Might as well just stay home and listen to the music from home if you are not going to get a good show.

I never actually got to see Neil in concert, but I have seen him on TV and things like that. I saw Barry once in concert - it was outside at a fair, about 100 degrees F with about 90% humidity and he still put on a great show. I was there with a lady who was literally about 92 years old at the time, and I think she even enjoyed it, although I'm not sure she had ever heard of Barry Manilow before!

I'm a 32-year-old metalhead, and I find myself singing Hannah Montana tunes from time to time.

Also a big fan of:

The Bee Gees
ABBA
Elton John
Sarah Brightman
Barry Manilow

ABBA rules. Straight up.
I don't think that's guilty at all. "Dancing Queen" is one of the greatest pop songs ever written.
The BeeGees are awesome as well.
As for my guilty pleasures:
Styx-one of my all time favorite bands. I even liked Kilroy. I'm totally not kidding.
The Bay City Rollers- "Saturday Night" was literally the first rock record I ever heard, my cousin had the 45. It had plaid all over the sleeve with a picture of the band. I watched their Krofft show, I love them.
Fastway I liked Dave King before he was cool in Flogging Molly. The "Trick or Treat" soundtrack is awesome.
Marilyn Manson- Cheesy cliche, but I love his stuff. "Mechanical Animals" is the best record Ziggy Stardust never made.

I love Kill Hannah.

I also love Rage Against the Machine and all their unbridled leftover teenage angst.

Dude...until a couple of years ago, I had the entire box set of the Carpenters. I vividly remember the day Karen died and bawling like a baby.

And count me in with the rest of the Fanilows.

(Also, I do like Marilyn Manson's remake of "Sweet Dreams." Who said that?)

I was one of the six billion who bought Michael Jackson's Thriller album. I also own the "We Are the World" single. But one of my biggest "sins" was Soft Cell's 12" 45 of Tainted Love.

I feel guilty about nothing that I like. From synthpop to black metal to 1920's banjo music ... they are all great.

Well, I would consider Linkin Park to be my guilty pleasure. They're not even all that good, they're commericial as pop stars, but I can't help it; I just like'em. Songs like "What I've Done" and "QWERTY" are really good.

For about a week. The 80's was when I started to get into jazz. I hated the whole techno-rock sound. In fact, I hated most rock that came out in the 80's. So I "found" guys like Al DiMeola, Pat Metheny, Alan Holdsworth, & Jon McLaughlin who made rock's best guitarists sound like a fifth grade level recital. Except for Duane Allman.

I grew up in the 80s. On the one hand I really enjoy remembering that time period and its music but I also recognize that the 80s were "artistically challenged" (at least the mainstream stuff). So I guess by that I'm saying much of the 80s mainstream music is a guilty pleasure, at least for me.

BTW: If you're thinking Iron Maiden or Metallica I would submit that they were definitely not mainstream. "Alternative" bands (when the label alternative was being applied correctly) were also not mainstream (and in some ways a revolt against it). IOW: I'm not counting The Smiths, Sisters of Mercy, early Cure, early REM or any number of 80s alternative bands as mainstream 80s music.

All of my friends are or were at some point very much so into punk. Real punk. And for some reason, Barry Manilow and Neil Diamond gets to all of them. Including myself. But I've never considered myself punk in any way, my taste definitely shies away from the mainstream though. I attribute their love of those two due to probably too much drug use when they were young. I have no idea why I love them. Haha, every time I put on "You Got to Me" from Diamond, my best friend says..."Time to go to the Church of Neil."
