I'm not finding too many reviews of the stuff. I'm eyeballing a chalkboard/magnetic combo, but don't want to waste the department's money...anybody know if it works?

I've used chalkboard paint. My mistake was using it on a textured wall. It worked OK but didn't erase really well because of the texture. Good thing is you can just do another coat down the road when you need to. If I'd put something smooth on the wall before I painted it would've worked much better.

I've heard good things about the magnetic paint, but you do have to remember to shake/stir it well every time so that the magnetic part (iron filaments maybe? can't remember right now) gets evenly distributed through the paint. You can use the magnetic paint then paint over a different color.
