I have a biz I operate from home. I went to a conference to be taught about the company and how I can make more with them. To share ideas, get new, fresh ideas and information about how to use this biz and let it be fun.
I volunteered to share my hotel room with another woman. The agreement was to share 50-50 on hotel bill only.
I am a distributor, so is she. She "assumed" I would pay for everything after she got there. That was wrong.
This is a harsh life lesson and I have forgiven her in my heart this morning.
There are people out there that will "burn" you in biz or just in every day life.
Since my Credit card was on file for the first night, I was responsible for the entire bill. She knew that and left without any remorse, any sorrow, just a huge smile.
I just want everyone to realize that people are not what they appear to be.
I thank you my Heavenly Father for this trip along.
I thank you Father for all the knowledge I learned and give you praise!

No answers, just sympathy!
I once went on a trip with someone and found out once we got there she thought the room had been reserved by her company... it hadn't. Neither of us had a credit card & I had just enough for expenses! Luckily she did work it out with her company and we were able to stay... but I had trusted her, and here I was 100s of miles from home and almost with no where to sleep!
It is hard when traveling with people! Esp when you don't know them well.
I guess next time insist on payment up front if it is on credit. She didn't charge anything to room service, etc, I hope!

Tara,
Nothing was put on room service because she made the mistake of telling me as soon as she got there what was going to be.
I let the hotel know immediately she was a "skipper" and nothing was to be pout on that room.
It's unfortunate but I guess some lessons are learned hard, then we don't forget.
Thank you Lord for another day!

Some people are just like that. Even some whom you thought you knew better that, will stab you in the back. A part of it comes with the territory in the difficult sales type of business... dog eat dog. Being in the real estate business, I learned a long time ago to never have room mates at professional gatherings. Some office mates will snoop, sneak, and steal any info they can get. The good news is all of your expenses is a legit biz expense to write off.

I think if it had been me, I would have told her "then I hope you are able to find another room, because you aren't staying here." ...Well, probably not, since I tend to be too nice, but I sure would have thought it. I'm glad that nothing else was charged to you.
How was this room-share set up? Was it through the company (ie. did the company ask for people willing to or wanting to share a room and expenses)? If so, I would contact the company and let them know that she skipped out on you. It might not make a difference, but maybe "rules" for sharing rooms could be established.
Sadly, some people are users and look for others to pay their way.

I assume that the arrangements for sharing were spelled out very clearly by the person making the arrangements with both parties... and, that it was not simply an ad-hoc, "here is a list of people looking to share' proposition.
Even if the latter is the case, I assume that the company at least facilitated the room sharing arrangement. So, this is not simply between you and the woman. While I don't think that this makes them liable for her expenses, I do believe that this puts them in the loop on what transpired... on several gounds.
First, she is likely to try the same thing in the future. Therefore, she should be on a 'do not share' list so that she cannot victimize another person.
Secondly, since she is a distributer then she may have some means of defrauding those below her. If she defrauds a fellow distributer... and that is exactly what she did... then she is fully capable of defrauding an underling or a client. And, the company needs to know that in the course of official business (the conference) she defrauded a peer.
If it were me, I would write to her demanding payment within 14 days and clearly spell out that you expect her to pay up or the incident will be reported to the appropriate people since the fraud was done in the course of official business... and, conferences ARE official business.
Lastly, no matter what the sacrifice I would not and do not share a room on any official business trip or conference. I simply refuse to do it even though the organization I'm traveling for might have a sharing policy. Many years ago, this refusal came in very handy when I worked with a government educational group as I heard others complain about their roomates bringing in members of the opposite gender for sex... not exactly an official activity. Nope. Will NOT share.

The arrangements were made by me about the room share.
Everything was spelled out from the get go. There was nothing said about I can't pay or will you let me have it all free by her.
It's just something that has happened, and it will not ever again. Any conference I attend now will be either alone or my husband with me. There won't be any more offering a room to share because no one else did on the boards. Now I see why.
Our company is aware of it because it was taken to the President by one of the diamond leaders. This company prides itself on doing the greater good, and won't allow this to go on.
There were many distributors that shared rooms, and in years before the same thing has occurred that has with me this year.
Some life lessons are meant to be learned and I just thank the Lord I had a good tiime regardless, learned tons of new information.
I'm on fire for God and my candle biz now!!
