(put this thread here, to discuss the actual weight loss techniques not the show itself) Has anyone been watching this.. or trying the techniques Paul Mckenna talks about?

I have never heard of it. Where are you watching it and what are the techniques? Is God incorporated into the weight loss program? If you don't deal with the inside of a person, it is only a temporary solution. My belief is you need to be healthy in spirit, soul, & body. Sometimes Christians are healthy in one area, but not in another. I will look into this program.

I've watched a few programs. I like the psychology to eating, but I"m not for sure if I agree with the tapping the body and all. But it is interesting. kim

I've seen a few shows (aired on TLC usually on Friday/Sun late evenings). I think some of the techniques are useful. I've tried them and I've tried the tapping technique as well. The tapping thing looks a little psycho, but...I go to a holistic chiropractor and it's similar to the things he uses to alleviate body aches/pains. My chiropractor uses accupressure and it's very effective! Check out some books on accupressure from your local library and it'll explain where this tapping technique is coming from.

He's a hypnotist. Christians have no business being involved in anything that concerns hypnotism, imo.

I only saw a few episodes. Eat when your are hungry Eat what you want Stop when you are full Eat consciencely As far as hypnotism... I don't have much experience with that to even make a judgement, or know enough about it. And as of yet haven't seen any of that.

I haven't seen anything on the shows that eluded to that practice. So far I haven't seen him do anything that made me feel threatened as a born again Christian. It seems like "mind over matter" or good old self control that he's talking about. In the Bible, the apostle Paul spoke of the mental battle a Christian faces daily to do things we should, while we try to fight against the old sin nature and not do the things we would like to do. I know nothing about the person McKenna is, although he doesn't strike me as Christian man. If anyone knows his background, please share.

Um...did you click on his name in my previous post to see what his credentials and background are? He is a Hypnotist and uses hypnotism techniques in all of his self improvement gimmicks. Here is part of a review on his book: "On Sunday, March 16, 2008, Paul McKenna will tell you: “I can make you thin”! Yup, from the comfort of your home you’ll be able to assist to his on air body transformations and who knows … you might even be able to apply a few hypnotherapy techniques to help you with your own weight loss challenges. McKenna, will not be using the same tactics as other diet and self-improvement gurus simply because he has the type of background that might make this show a weekly must-see TV series. You see, along with being a best-selling author and a television personality, Paul McKenna is a British hypnotist. His bio is quite impressive in the industry of hypnosis and hypnotherapy: McKenna studied hypnosis and neuro-linguistic programming with Richard Bandler (the co-creator of NLP)." -Beautymatch.com If you still don't believe it google his name followed by hypnotist and see what comes up.

I didn't say I didn't believe you, I only asked for more information. I didn't mean for my request to offend. I said I didn't know anything personal about the man. I think alot of his stuff is kooky, and not something I personally would do. The main thing I saw as useful advice was to slow down while eating and place your fork on the table. And I can see where the tapping technique is related to accupressure. Thanks for additional info, and I will check out your link.

I am sure there are some useful things that can be picked out of what he promotes...but nothing special or unique or worth the money you'll shell out for his book, cd's, etc. The danger for Christians delving into this guy's stuff is that some will be unable to discern what is in complete opposition to the teachings of their faith and what isn't. So, imo, it's best to steer clear.

in my opinion people make the whole weight loss thing too complicated, and keep trying to find an easy way to lose weight. the media and some people take advantage of it and throw in a billion products, methods and other stuff that promise a lot, and are of course, complicated, and cost a lot i mean c'mon... hypnoticism?!? ive been overweight and honestly the hardest thing to losing weight is all the crud out there that confuses you. as soon as you learn what you really should be doing and do it, you WILL see results and suddenly its one of the easiest things you've ever done instead of this tremendous task thats on most people's minds. the only excuse is if you have medical problems, which FAR less people really have than they claim. (with stats of 25% obesity, i dont think all of them have a "problem"... maybe 5% of that 25%, so around 1%)

Supposedly he has a PhD in psychology and is, in fact a therapist. Hypnotic therapies are widely recognized in the field so this isn't unusual. For him to do 'shows" on variuos techniques seems rather cheezy to me. I've checked out his web site and from what I read he uses suggestive thinking and the subconsious to help retrain the mind towards food. Just from what I've seen I don't see such a big deal if we can re-train our thinking to be more conscious of what we eat as not to overeat, etc. It's just that his approach seems all too info-mercial for me and a bit unprofessional if he is, in fact a professional psychologist. I guess I can see the good, the bad and the quesitonable in this guy.

In 1996, after 2 years of study on a 70,000 word thesis McKenna was granted a Ph. D from LaSalle University (Louisiana). LaSalle was properly licenced by the state of Louisiana, but falsely claimed to be an accredited university. After the principal of LaSalle pleaded guilty to fraud, McKenna, along with thousands of other students, was awarded compensation from the US government.[3] In 2004, McKenna gained a UK accredited PhD from the business school International Management Centres Association (IMCA) Link 1 Link 2, accredited by The British Accreditation Council The BAC The title of his thesis was "The Effects of Fixed Action Patterns and Neuro-Linguistic Programming in Determining Outcomes in Human Behaviour". In 2006 he successfully sued The Daily Mirror for libel, over claims made by journalist Victor Lewis-Smith that McKenna obtained a "bogus degree" to deliberately defraud the public (the degree was from LaSalle University (Louisiana)). McKenna won the case and substantial damages. Lewis Smith wrote about his "bogus degree" even though he knew that Paul McKenna had since earned a UK accredited Ph.D http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paul_McKenna I have no degree, but I could put an entry in the Yellow Pages as a therapist. You don't need qualifications to claim to be a therapist ~ or indeed to be a therapist.. And just because someone has a PhD is psychology doesn't mean that they are a qualified therapist ~ or should be a therapist.
