Why do so many people believe that they have to vote for either the Democrats or the Republicans? There are many other choices out there that are much better than either of those parties. And those other choices are available at the local, state, and national levels. The problem is, the media and the republicrats want everyone to think there are only two choices so that they can maintain their monopoly on power. If people would do a little research and vote their conscience, major changes would occur in this country.

Voter Education: Sould a person vote without educating themselves ahead of time as to the issues and candidates? I say no and here is why. If you go into the voting booth and have not researched the candidates and issues, you have no idea what you are voting for and you may possibly be voting for something or someone that is completely opposite of what you believe in. A good example of that is my Grandmother. She votes straight Democrat in every election simply because she grew up in the depression and Franklin Roosevelt was a Democrat. However, if you sit and talk with her, her views are solidly conservative! She votes for people who have opposite views from her own! For state and local offices she votes for candidates that she has never even heard of simply because of a party label. Most of the time she doesn't even know the purpose of the office! When I moved back to Kentucky and registered and voted here, I researched most of the candidates before I went in and voted. I voted for some Republicans, some Democrats, and some from other parties. There were three offices for which I decided not to cast a vote because I did not know anything about those offices or the candidates. To me, if I had voted for someone for those offices without knowing anything about them, that would have been irresponsible. Yes, voting is a right. But, with that right comes the responsibility to educate yourself as to who and what you are voting for. I am NOT advocating a law or anything like that, to prevent people from voting. I am merely stating that those who do not educate themselves about the issues and candidates should abstain from voting. Let those who have done their research do the voting. That is the responsible thing to do.
