Why do men like fighting? Things like Ulitmate Fighting and other fighting activities including boxing. I get the idea that males need to release aggression and such. I am a fan of football and baseball. Too me there is purpose involved with those games. Fighting is just beating each other up and punching the other guys face in the way I see it.

Why do men like to engage in fighting or watch it?

i have taken karate before for a few reasons such as that it was good exercise and i could learn self defense too. i don't watch boxing, ufc, etc but there is a lot involved in a 'fight' including a mental aspect. when men fight, except in a bar fight, it's to test strength, endurance, strategy, etc besides from sparring in class in the past, currently i wrestle with some of the teens in youth group occassionally

Being involved in them, I know a lot of women that are "into" combat activities. I also personally know many, many men that have no interest in them whatsoever.

So to answer your question, the answer would probably apply to both men and women that have an interest; and that would be it varies. Some are in it for the machoism, some for the violence, some for the challenge, others for the discipline. There's probably a half dozen other reasons.

Male was encoded with a more apparent aggression opposed to female. It is our nature to be a provider, and this providable characteristic is equipped with killer instincts. Our natural position is to defend and protect.

Men most probably like fighting because it feeds that natural emotion.

Men most typically engage in fighting as a sport. Those type of men are the same as those who are entertained by watching it.

It could be mere entertainment value.

natural instinct to be tough, to work out it through familiar association (I always wrestled with my bro and pater when i was younger)...

just how we are designed...

we might be civilized human beings, but we are still part of nature and have certain instincts.

Got me... I don't watch it. Now when hanging with the guys, it may be on the TV, but I could care less. Pretty much the same for football and baseball too. I just don't like to watch sports on TV, booooring. However, I grew up in a racing family. On a free weekend, you will find me at the track: NASCAR, SCCCA, Indy, Cart, I don't care... so long as it's fast and noisy.

I get Karate it's a sport and self defense. I get wrestling with siblings for fun or even getting a little ticked that goes without saying with siblings. I even understand when I watch football and baseball things happen in the moment and tempers go off in the heat of things. I sure get fighting to defend yourself or your woman.

I still do not understand the enjoyment in just watching the ultimate fight stuff with just punching and kicking each other for a sport. Even boxing looks like they are just about punching the other guys head in for fun sport. Of course there is the money part too. What's so fun about punching and kicking each other until your opponent can't get up or is seriously injured?

How can we say gang fighting is wrong if this not? Not trying to pick on any fans of it just that I don't understand it. Maybe there is more too it.

My timing was off, in that I did it all (wrestling, judo, boxing, karate...), before UFC was around. If it had been around when I was younger, I probably would have gotten involved in it.

Having the background in it, I do have a passing interest in watching some of the matches. Especially when it involves highly skilled people. I can "appreciate" what it takes to be one of the best at it. But even with all that past involvement, it can even get to "brutal" (and boring) to me. A match between unskilled or low level fighters, just looks like brawling to me and won't hold my interest.

Not that one has to be involved in it to appreciate it. I never played (really) football, but I do enjoy watching it. But the same thing, I enjoy it more when its competitive, or being played at a high level; than non-competitive or low level.
