Hey guys! My apologies for my first post (my so-called 'intro')! I was really tired when I typed that but I wanted to start my own blog and get it going. N-E-Way... I'm still not very sure what all to put in this introduction. "Hi, my name is Niki and I'm ADD with chronic mono & chronic fatigue syndrome . I've been diagnosed as bipolar with some depression , and I've just recently been diagnosed with having IC . I'm basically in my mid-20's (which is scary) and I have a white guitar." Woo-hoo! I did it. I'd hate to be you reading it (because it sounds a bit depressing) but I did it. I think. Yeah, I don't really know what you all (if anyone reads this) would want to know about me. I was born in Saudi Arabia and moved back to the states with my family when I was 2 years, so I don't remember living over there nor traveling over-seas. Bummer. Oh-well! After our family moved home from over-seas, we lived in the Rose of Texas until I was in the 2nd grade. Then we moved again. I was in public school up until my 8th grade year, but I got sick and had to study homebound the rest of that year. I tried to go back to High School for my 9th grade year, but I kept having relaspes of my illness so I had to home-school from then on. I'm not a very energetic person and I really wish that I had a lot of energy, but oh-well. Maybe after I find out the results to a medical test I had done just recently, then maybe the results will show if I'm taking the right medications or not. Maybe if my meds are adjusted I'll have more energy. Maybe not. The medical test I just had done was a sleep study. My new urologist referred me to this psycho-therapist who performs these sleep studies on his patients to see if they are taking the right medications for their ............ special needs. I don't know the results to the test yet, but I hope I find out soon. The doctor who did the sleep study told my mom that I spent most of the night in REM and that when I was in deep REM I started having really erractic breathing and my heart rate went up. The doc sent the results off to a neurologist who is suppose to examine it and send back his 'diagnosis' results to the doc. Hopefullly I will know what the results are soon, because I've been a little anxious about it. Well, I'm taking a college course this semester - English Composition I. I've been doing homework all night. It takes me a long time to do homework. I really needed to take a little break from it, even just to post in my blog, before I tried to finish it. I don't know if I will be able to finish it though because it is really late here and I'm probably just going to have to stop for tonight and pick it up again tomorrow. I've been looking up definitions to ingredients to a Proactive product for one of my homework assignments. I still need to revise the essay I'm working on and then submit it to an etutor again. I guess I could post the essay on here whenever I'm completely done with it. That would give you all something interesting to read, eh? Haha. I'll probably still post it anyway, though. Well, I guess that's enough yip-yap for tonight. I've probably bored you enough already. ;) At least I didn't start talking about all the ingredients I've just looked up. Some of them are pretty interesting too. Take for example the anthemis nobilis flower extract. Anthemis is a flower that is known by the common name Chamomile and has been nicknamed "the plant's physician" because it seems to improve the health of the other plants grown near it. Interesting, huh? Well, I guess I need to get cracking on my essay or go to bed. G-nite!

Hey everyone! I hope everyone is doing okay! Well, I turned in my essay this past Monday and I'm not looking forward to getting it back and seeing the grade or comments. Now, I have to write another essay to turn in this coming Monday. WML! I'm going to post my first essay, which I turned in Monday, in the next entry. I just re-read through it again and saw some mistakes (and ways to make it better) that I should have recognized before I turned it. Oh-well! I can't go back and change it so I'll just have to move forward and learn from that (those) mistakes - and hopefully remember - ! P.S. Oh, and I forgot to warn you (whoever is patient enough to read this)! Warning!: the essay is kind of long (I think)! I didn't even mention what the essay was suppose to be about. The assignment was to describe a place where I played as a child, express how I feel or felt about that place, and (if I want) describe how that place has helped shape me into the person I am today.

Woodland Paradise Out of all the places where I played as a child, the woods were the most significant. The landscape was beautiful and the atmosphere welcoming. The woods emitted a sense of security that made me want to stay there forever. Unlimited days were spent in those woods where I shared countless adventures with my brother. Along with the amusement of the woods, there were also the never-ending obstacles which we battled each time we played there. The woods were very dear to me and still are and I know that those woods helped shape me into the person I am today. The ambience of those woods consumed me with such a strong sensation of security that always made me feel welcome there. I felt assured by the peace and the serenity that the woods instilled inside of me. The scenery of the woods and everything surrounding it was breathtaking. From the multiple oak trees to the rolling hills that accentuated the beautiful creek which bubbled with refreshing water, everything was so exquisite that it attracted even the most nonchalant person. The creek, which was only in one part of the woods, was right next to my uncle’s house. Overlaying the creek were bridges and one of the bridges was at the road which ran past our house. There were also tree-bridges which were fallen trees or tree branches that made a crossing from one side of the creek to the other. Encircling the creek, as well as the rest of the woods, were the various hillocks which were blanketed with innumerable pine needles that even made the dreary leaves look sparse. My brother and I experienced numberless enjoyable adventures while playing in those woods. One of the entertaining activities we enjoyed was exploring. We called it “exploring” because we would go gallivanting through the woods descrying everything the woods encompassed, discovering new places we had never been to nor seen before, or investigating our wooded wonderland for a new place to hang out or somewhere new to build a fort. There were days when we would spend all day in the woods playing and we would be determined to find something new and go as far as we could go, or as far as we dared to go. We would also spend a lot of time climbing trees, trekking up the larger hills, and weaseling our way through the briar patches. In addition to climbing up the hills we also sled down them whether there was snow on the ground or not. We also had a fantastic time riding our dad’s 4-wheeler like maniacs through the woods, by the trees, over the hills, down the gully and into the creek (if the creek was dry and empty of water). We would also amuse ourselves by playing a lot of role playing games such as He-Man & She-Ra, Dungeons and Dragons, G.I. Joe, and etc. Plus, we enjoyed taking our friends and cousins in the woods with us to play and to include them in our explorations. However, you cannot have blissful expeditions without the dangers and the risks of whatever resides in the woods. I cannot count the many times we fell into briar patches and got severely scratched up by the briar thorns. Oh, how my hair use to get tangled up in those dang thorns so many times that you would think at some point I would have learned to keep it up in a ponytail or something! Then, of course, we would get scratched up by tree limbs, and if we were walking behind somebody we had to be very careful in case they forgot that we were behind them and pushed a tree limb out of their way but instead of waiting for us to pass by them before they would release it, they would let go of the limb too soon and it would swing back to slap us in the face. Ouch. And as always, I was the first one to crawl through the small briar patches because I was so small. We really had to keep an eye out for poison ivy and poison oak because there was so much of it in the woods. Plus, not only did we need to watch out for poison ivy/oak, but we also had to make sure we didn’t walk, stumble, or fall into bull nettle plants which, not only made you itch, it also gave you a horrible stinging sensation. Also, keeping our footing was immensely important while trekking through the woods. We had to be very careful not to trip or fall because most likely, if we tripped or fell, we would fall into something detrimental such as I have mentioned before (briar patches, poison ivy/oak, bull nettles) but also we had to be very careful not to fall in the creek when walking across one of the bridges. It wasn’t so bad when the creek was dry. In that case, all we had to do was get up and dust ourselves off, but otherwise if the creek was full of water then it would be a chilly and soggy trek home. We also had to be weary of ticks since the woods were full of them. My amazingly tolerant mother had me and my brother take a countless number of Lysol baths to kill the blood-sucking fiends that had attached themselves to us because they wanted our blood for breakfast. Furthermore, one of the biggest concerns of going into the woods was not coming out. In other words, getting lost and not being able to find our way out or back home. We also had to be very careful when playing in or around the creek because there were snakes in the creek, and my brother and I had a very close call once because we saw a snake in the creek one day while were trying to cross over from one side of the creek to the other. We didn’t see it until after my brother had already jumped from one side of the creek to the other side, but then we saw it right beneath where he had jumped and in my direct path. It was now my turn to jump over to the other side of the creek, and do you think I backed away and walked around to another part of the creek to cross over? My brother told me to back away and walk down the creek a little ways where he would meet up with me, but I guess I was stupid or just wanted to prove that I could do it so I just jumped over the creek right there, right over the snake. I was very lucky that the snake didn’t strike at me to bite me, but we got out alive and unscathed. Without a doubt, the woods were superbly significant and spectacular to me. I will never forget the refreshing atmosphere, the gorgeous scenery, the comforting security, or the endless endeavors that always met me there. My reveries of the adventures and amusements, challenges and obstacles, and my own sentimentalities that I have of that place will always be with me. I loved and am still fond of those woods because of all the wonderful memories I have of that place, and I dearly miss playing there. The amazing times I spent there as well as all of my experiences from the woods have helped shaped me into the adventurous, spontaneous, and reckless person I am today. In conclusion, I will never forget the woods that I have always cherished and that I will always remember with tender, sweet memories as my woodland paradise. By: Niki (trinity_3persons)

Is Proactive a Bad Acid? You’ve had a long hard day either at work, taking care of kids, or running around doing errands and you finally get a chance to sit down and relax. You turn on the TV and as you are flipping through the channels you see an attractive, slim blonde in a form fitting and flattering outfit with this big smile on her face talking about how a facial product has removed all of her acne and that has “changed her life.” Her tone is excited and upbeat and suddenly you are curious as to what product she is referring to. The lady in the commercial is the popular song artist, Jessica Simpson, and she is advertising what she claims is an “amazing product” that she promises everyone who buys it will “love” it. The product she is glorifying is a series of products, but one of the products has ingredients in it that everyone who has bought it or is thinking about purchasing it should be aware of. It’s a Proactive Product labeled Proactive Solution Renewing Cleanser and consumers shouldn’t use this product because of everything they put on their face every time they use it. Benzoyl Peroxide is known as one of the most effective treatments of acne1 and it is also one of the ingredients in this product. It is also an effective antiseptic which reduces the skin surface bacteria and also reduces yeast on the surface of the skin.1 In addition, “it is a white crystalline compound C14H10O4 used in bleaching and in medicine especially in the treatment of acne.”2 I would like to emphasize one of its uses “… it is used in bleaching”. It can bleach and decolorize hair and fabrics immediately when applied because it is such strong bleaching agent.1 I know this is a fact from my own experience with this product. It bleached one of my shirts and towel and it also bleached the towels of one of my brother’s friends. “Benzoyl Peroxide is also highly flammable, explosive, carcinogenic,” and evidently, “should be handled with care.”3 In my opinion, using a product that has the ability to bleach fabrics and hair doesn’t seem like a very wise thing to do, and the fact that it is highly flammable as well as explosive seems like a very dangerous thing have. It makes me wonder what would happen if someone had a candle burning next to the product, without realizing that is high flammable and explosive, if it was accidently knocked over onto or beside the product and if the flames came in contact the product bottle, then I wonder what would happen and if it were to explode or catch on fire. I wouldn’t want to risk having that happen and benzoyl peroxide is only one of the unappealing ingredients of this product. Another ingredient that is in the product makes me want to gag when I think about it because I definitely wouldn’t want to put rooster combs on my face when I wash my face. I really wish I had known this because that it exactly where another one of its ingredients, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), comes from. “Sodium hyaluronate is a sterile mixture that is made up mostly of natural highly purified sodium hyluronate that comes from rooster combs.”3 It is also well known as a moisturizer since its solution is highly viscous.3 Thus far, I had put a bleaching agent and rooster combs on my face when I had washed my face with that Proactive product. Further, the Proactive Solution Renewing Cleanser also has Imdazolidinyl Urea in it which is “produced commercially from synthetic ammonia and carbon dioxide and it can be produced as prills, granules, flakes, pellets, crystals and solutions. It is also found in mammalian and amphibian urine as well as in some fish.”4 Now, in addition to bleach and rooster combs it also has ammonia, carbon dioxide, and mammal and amphibian urine. Also, “urea is used as a cream to soften the skin and promote rehydration but it is also used as a flame-proofing agent, a component of fertilizer and animal feed that provides a relatively cheap source of fixed nitrogen to promote growth, a raw material for the manufacture of various glues, and as an additive ingredient to cigarettes which are designed to enhance the flavor.”4 Fertilizer, glue, and an ingredient used in cigarettes were used as a means to wash my face in addition to bleach, rooster combs, carbon dioxide, and fish urine. However, these are not the only ingredients that I let come in contact with my face when I used this Proactive facial cleanser. This “amazing” product, which thus far is notorious for using disgusting ingredients , also has Propylene Glycol in it, which is “a colorless, nearly odorless, and syrupy liquid that is derived from natural gas”.5 It is used in medicines, food, toothpaste, and tobacco products as a moisturizer, but it is also used in fragrance oils and as non-toxic antifreeze.6 At least the antifreeze is non-toxic, but it’s not only used as an antifreeze but it’s also used “as a base ingredient in aircraft deicing fluid, in killing and preserving agent pitfall traps (which are usually used to capture ground beetles), and to treat livestock ketosis.”6 With all these ingredients in this cleanser: a bleach agent, rooster combs, ammonia, carbon dioxide, fish urine and now including these ingredients: fertilizer, antifreeze, the same ingredient used in glue, cigarettes, and to treat livestock ketosis I honestly am not even tempted to touch this disgustingly filled product again. At first when I started using this product I didn’t have any bad reactions to it. Although I did get out of the habit of using it for about a month, but when I started using it again my face broke out with red blotches. So, I waited a day and then tried using again it the next night. The next morning I woke up scratching my neck, without thinking about what I was doing, because my neck was itching something awfully dire. By the end of the day, I still had the rash on my neck even though I had been putting an anti-itch cream on it all day. I would not recommend this product to anybody, and if you are thinking about purchasing it don’t waste your money on it. Remember not to believe everything you read or see on TV because even though Jessica Simpson “guarantees you’ll love this stuff”, she is also getting paid a lot of money for being in that commercial. Besides, I doubt that Jessica Simpson has any idea what is in just one of those products. Keep in my mind the ingredients that are in the Proactive Solution Renewing Cleanser - bleach, rooster combs, ammonia, carbon dioxide, fish urine, fertilizer, antifreeze as well as the same ingredients that are used to treat livestock ketosis, and which are used in glue, cigarettes, and other tobacco products; and before you buy this product, or if you are already consumer, think about whether you would want to put all of these chemicals on your face each time you wash your face. In conclusion, even though there are different brands out there that claim they sell “all natural” products, I would advice you to be wary of these ‘claims’ and keep in mind that in most cases they are trying to “sell” you their product. If all else fails, then there is always plain soap and water. Works Cited Medical News Today. Benzoyl Peroxide and Acne. May 2007. Sept. 2007. <http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/71614.php>. Notorious?! Why did I post and use the word "notorious" in my last blog entry I wonder? And man, my essays are a bit lengthy! Goodness... I'll be surprised if I still have peeps reading my blog (if anyone does read my blog)! But anyway.......... Today was okay. I'm a bit tired and I haven't really been feeling all that great these past few days. I had a low-grade temp ealier so I took a couple Tylenol. Right now I'm a little bit sleepy and feel like laying down and taking a nap or calling it an early night. I don't think I had a very productive day today. Tonight probably isn't going to be any more productive. Ugg! Oh-well. Well, I better get going so I'll post more l8R. God Bless~

Okay, it has been a while (almost 3 weeks) since I posted an entry here on my "so called" blog. That being said, I thought I should (and needed) to post another blog entry. I turned in my comparison/contrast essay on the two TV programs that I watched and compared. The two TV programs that I chose and decided to write an essay about are The O'Reilly Factor and On the Record with Greta Van Susteren. I turned in my comparison/contrast essay last week and I think that I will probably get it back (with a grade ) tomorrow night when I go to class. I am going to post a copy of the final draft of the comparison essay that I turned in to my ENG teacher in my next blog entry. Now, I am working on my research paper and I have been trying to work on my research paper. I'm not doing a very good job and it is a little challenging (sp!) for me but I expected it to be. I chose the topic, "Should English be declared the official language of the United States?" but I'm having a hard time finding the sources I need (and want) and knowing what sources I need and which ones I can use for my research paper. I doubt that I will post a copy of my final draft of my research paper here in my blog on CW. I'm not planning on it.... but I may change my mind later on. I guess it will depend on how good a job I do when I am finished with it. I have been trying to read my Bible every day. Right now I am reading the book of Isaiah and I've gotten pretty far into it. I am on chapter 54 and the book has 66 chapters, so I'm pretty much almost through the book of Isaiah. I haven't been reading my Bible every day like I want too, though, and I'm trying to work on getting better at that. Hopefully, it will be easier for me to succeed in that area once my college course ends. Okay, well I need to go and get back to my research paper. My next journal entry should be my comparison/contrast essay on the two TV news programs I mentioned earlier.

Here is a copy of the final draft of my comparison/contrast essay. Bill O’Reilly vs. Greta Van Susteren There are multiple news programs available when choosing which news station to view. The Fox News station, which airs on cable and satellite TV, has two highly qualified and informative news reporters who keep viewers connected and up to date on the world news. These two reporters are Bill O’Reilly, who has his own news program which is The O’Reilly Factor, and Greta Van Susteren, who has her own news program as well which is On the Record. O’Reilly’s and Greta’s news programs are alike in both how they report the news and the different ways they both interview their sources. However, the news segments on their news programs and the entertainment level of their news programs differ. Even with their similarities and differences, they are both excellent news reporters, who capture the attention of their viewers and who deliver the world news efficiently. Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren both report the breaking news and the current news, even though their topics sometimes vary. On the day of O.J. Simpson’s trial, when O.J. was convicted for participating in a hostage and kidnapping attempt, both O’Reilly and Greta reported the breaking news of his trial. Also, they both reported the breaking news on the wildfires in Southern California as well as the current news of Britney Spears losing custody of her children. Whereas when Greta Van Susteren reported the breaking news on the First Lady going to the King Hussein Cancer Center in Amman, Jordon to visit the children at the cancer center, Bill O’Reilly reported the breaking news about the author of the Harry Potter books, J.K. Rowling, claiming that one of the main characters in her Harry Potter books is homosexual. While O’Reilly reported the current news of a man convicted of sexual charges, Greta reported on the “Missing Boater Case” of the boatman who went missing and how police officials and investigators are still looking for him. When interviewing their sources both O’Reilly and Greta invite different reporters, spokespeople, and people relating to the topics being discussed to their news programs to interview and question them. O’Reilly and Greta also interview and discuss topics with other reporters, who are at different locations, through cameras. O’Reilly invites both returning guests and new guests to his show to interview them and to discuss different news topics with them. O’Reilly also interviews guests, such as Dennis Miller, through the news program’s cameras. Greta not only interviews her sources by inviting them to her news program and through the news program’s cameras, but she also travels to different locations to interview different people who relate to the topics she reports. One difference between Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren is the different layouts of their news programs. O’Reilly has regular news segments on his program as well as rotating news segments, which are segments not aired on every show. Some of O’Reilly’s regular news segments are the following: the “Talking Points Commentary Segment”, the “Impact Segment”, the “Pinheads and Patriots Segment”, and the “Email Comments Segment”. O’Reilly’s “Talking Points” and “Impact” segments are always presented at the beginning of his show; while, his “Pinheads and Patriots” and “Email Comments” segments are always presented at the end of his show. Some of O’Reilly’s rotating segments are the “Unresolved Problem” segment, the “Factor Investigation” segment, and the “Back in the Book” segment. Greta, on the other hand, mainly reports the news and interviews her sources, and she only has one regular news segment on her program which is called “New Developments”. Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren also have different entertainment styles. While O’Reilly is more outspoken and isn’t afraid to speak his mind, Greta is more reserved and isn’t as openly expressive as O’Reilly. O’Reilly is more entertaining, in my opinion, because is he funnier and more animated than Greta. Although Greta isn’t as entertaining to view as O’Reilly, it is still interesting to see her report the news. While Greta isn’t as straightforward as O’Reilly, her attitude appears to be more considerate of other people and of their feelings. Even though Greta is more cautious when expressing her opinions, I feel that she still performs her job as a reporter with accomplished professionalism. Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren are both exceptional news reporters. Their news programs are alike in how they both report the news and interview their sources. Yet there are also differences in their news programs such as the news segments on their programs and the entertainment value of their programs. Bill O’Reilly and Greta Van Susteren are both expert reporters and both entertaining in their own unique ways. By: Niki (Trinity_3persons)

I know that I haven't posted a blog entry in awhile so I'm taking time to post one now. I finished my research paper and turned it in. I don't know what grade I made on my research paper but I got a 'B' 3.0 grade for my English Comp course that I recently finished. Thanksgiving was good and Christmas is coming up pretty quick but I haven't started Christmas shopping yet. So I might be running frantic trying to buy Christmas gifts and figure out what to get everyone. I forgot what else I wanted to type on this blog entry. Anyway.... I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving and has a Merry Christmas!!

I've registered for the college courses that I would like to take this coming Spring Semester of 2008. I hope that I do okay in the courses that I'm registered to take in the Spring: Pre-algebra and U.S. History. I'm thinking about starting to write a "story" (or novel or something) because I have this idea (like a plot or something) in mind that I think would be interesting. I may blog about that more later / some other time. I need to get offline & get ready for bed and etc. b/c it is really late (or rather really early) here /where I am/. Hope to post more soon!

It has been a while since I have posted an entry on my blog. I started college again for this Spring Semester. I am currently taking Prealgebra and History before 1877. Today was my third day of class and I still haven't received any homework from my History professor. However, I have received multiple homework assignments from my pre-algebra professor. Geez, I am really tired right now and I feel like I could sleep forever. I need to get to bed soon because I have to get up and drive 4 (or so) hours to visit some of my family members. There has been a death in our family and I need to go to my grandparent's home so that I can try to go to the wake tomorrow and go to the funeral on Friday. Anyway, I know that I don't leave very long blog entries but I have a hard time knowing what all I want to include in my blog. I've been doing a pretty good job (I think) reading the book of Jeremiah from my Bible nearly every day. I'm almost through reading the book of Jeremiah and will soon begin the book of Lamentations. ........ I'm going to jet and I'll be back to post again some other time.

Back @ my grandparents house w/ my mom but we will leaving hopefully later on this afternoon (if not today, then tomorrow) to go back home. I just logged online to get a few things done (like posting an entry on my blog) but I will be logging offline in a little bit. I know that my mom needs to use my laptop in a few minutes (or so) to get some things done also. I've made it to the book of Lametations in my Bible and will be going on to the book of Ezekiel soon. Some of the books in the Bible are really hard to read and, I'm not trying to complain but, the harder books of the Bible are more of a challenge to read through. For my own personal amusement, I am listening to my Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones soundtrack. It so awesome~ I know that I am such a loser or whatever but oh-well! And.... I would watch the movie instead of listening to the soundtrack but I don't have that particular Star Wars movie. Why, you may ask, do I not have Star Wars Episode II? Well, that is a very very good question and one that I may have to answer one day, but for now......... Cheerio~

I wonder if anyone ever reads my blog and gets personally amused by some of my silly entries that I post, such as the entry above (previous to) this one. Or I wonder if (and when) people read an entry like that (with reference to Star Wars) if they roll their eyes and think to themselves maybe something condensending like "This girl is a loser" (or something like that). *shrugs* oh-well......... I need to study for a History quiz that I will have to take on Monday..... or take a nap. I'm really drowsy, and that can't be good!

After thought: I should probably try to post weekly verses here in my blog on either Wednesdays or Thursdays each week. What do you guys think about that? Do any of you think that is a good idea? Anyone can post their comments, ideas, opinions (or even questions) HERE.
