I learned of a band today called BloodHag. They play short heavy metal songs about science fiction and fantasy authors. They call their music style "bibliocore." Now that rocks!

what is biblicore? sounds like trying to say Bible is fantasy. I will admit Bible is bloodiest book ever written but explain the biblicore a bit more before I can praise the genre

I don't think they're saying the Bible is fantasy, I think they are alluding to the fact that "biblio" means book in Spanish.

A Google search led me to a couple of record reviews for BloodHag's "Hell Bent For Letters." One review said they sound like a book on tape with Slayer providing the vocals and music.

I've gotta check these guys out!!

Listening to 'em on Zune right now and truly dig 'em. Zune's description says its like GWAR teaching history class. Christians can be happy - they pay tribute to Madeline L'Engle with a track called, well, "Madeline L'Engle."

Yeah, "biblio" means book, not bible.

I just listened to some of their stuff on Myspace. LOL It's kind of Neurosis-style...definitely not for everyone, but seriously--can you hate a band that writes songs about authors? I think not.

This from their page:
quote:

Our mission is to spread the gospel of Edu-Core. Bang The Head That Does Not Read. Everyone Smarter Than Everyone Else. Use Heavy Metal music to promote literacy and vice versa.

They mention Edgar Allen Poe, Madeline L'Engle, Aldous Huxley, Frank Herbert, Franz Kafka, George Orwell, H.G. Wells, J.R.R. Tolkien, Kurt Vonnegut, Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Ray Bradbury, and a bunch of others as "influences."

Chiodos' lyrics all come from poetry like Poe and Shakespeare.

So you guys are saying there may soon be a "bibliocore" section at my local music store? Or on Amazon?

I had this sitting on a shelf for a couple years and brought it into work a few weeks ago just to listen to it again, since I'd completely forgotten how it sounded. It was absolutely the worst thing we'd played in there in a LONG time - and we play some bad stuff.

And there were 20-some songs on the cd. I didn't think it would ever end.

I liked that CD. I found it to be unique and talent-filled.

Although it is a different genre completely, since we are talking about unique genres, I will throw in Math Rock/Mathcore music.

According to Wiki:

Math rock is a rhythmically complex, guitar-based style of experimental rock music that emerged in the late 1980s. It is characterized by complex, atypical rhythmic structures (including irregular stopping and starting), angular melodies, and dissonant chords.

In other words. . .it's weird and lots of fun.

Would Meshuggah fall into this genre? This describes them perfectly.

So it's like The Chariot or the Dillinger Escape Plan?

If you youtube them, you can see some of their live shows.

There is just something energetic about it, even though it's not necessarily good.
