A lot of people pray "thy will be done" hesitantly. This is either because they in fact wish that their own will is done instead. Or perhaps, deep within them, they are afraid as to what would really happen if God's will is done. Their Faith is somewhat shaky, and although they may say "thy will be done" uncertainty and fear takes over and knocks out sincerity.

Nothing, however we tend to fashion our pray-ing as though our prayers depend on us for fulfillment in our limited scope of experience. God is much more expansive and that expansion can burst our limitations, selfish hearts and expectation. A person asked me to 'pray for...' a situation and I responded with, 'I will, but I except[His]results' and the collateral 'damage'(or glory) can(will)be substantial.

ORIGINAL: rmoore1925 What prevents you from praying " Your will be done" with sincerity? ? Sadly is my inability to initially trust the Father that prevents me from praying "Your will be done". It's really silly because if I think about it, there should nothing to be afraid of. Because if God is FOR us, who can be against us? Deep down within my heart, I know that God will not bring me harm. He will not give me a snake when I ask for fish. But even though I know, that the Lord is good, it's so hard to pray that prayer, but when I finally do....there's never been a moment where I can keep the tears from overflowing in surrendering to His good will....and then there's that peace that surpasses all understanding that always follows.

I think, and this for myself, what would hinder me from praying that was recognizing that if that is what I truly want..."His will to be done" then I have to take all of it and just not some of it. So say if He wanted me to move away from the area I am in right now that would be hard for me because I love the people here, but am I really wanting all of His will. Sometimes His will goes against my comfort, goes against my heart, and goes against what I love, but His will is always best. His will will never lead us anywhere that He isn't there with us. That is true, whereever I am, He is because He is inside of me!

It means that I have to give up my own will. I'd much rather hold on to my ideas, my way of doing things, and have the control in my hands. It's just my nature.

Even knowing that His will is for my good, many times I fear what I will have to do. When Jesus prayed this in Gethsemane, He was facing a beating and a cross. Not exactly a pleasant experience. It is hard to see the glory set before us, as Jesus was able to do, if we experience something that is difficult to face.

They say that sincerity is the key. Once you can fake that, you've got it made.
