Does anyone use a pet nail grinder? I have been watching those commercials for pedipaws and I think Pedicure, and they both look the same. I was worried they were made cheaply so I checked out the grinders at petco, etc. I can only find one, made by Oster, and it's 50 bucks at fostersmith.com, 60 at petsmart and 70 at petco. Same exact grinder. My question is, is it worth 50 bucks? I hate to cut Buffy's nails, she gets upset and I have trouble cutting them because I don't have that much strength in my hands to squeeze the nail clipper. Plus they are black so I can't see the quick. Does anyone have an Oster or similar product? Or even the pedipaws? Does the dog like/tolerate it? Are they noisy? I need to know I'm not wasting hard earned money.

I don't know a thing about them, Kath. The only thing I wonder is, if it upsets Buffy to have her nails cut, grinding them would take longer. Would she stand for it? Not literally stand...you know what I mean.

Well, she is ok when I pick up her paw but when I squeeze the thing I know I flinch a bit and she jerks her paw back. by the time I get all of her front done she is slightly sneering at me, raising her lip, whatever it's called. It's quite an ordeal so I'd hoped that a grinder would work. It might even be faster in the long run since it takes me so long to actually cut her nail. I do keep a supply of treats but last time I gave her biljack, which she loves, but it gave her the...well, she got sick. I don't use crunchy treats because it's harder for her to eat laying on the couch. I have to put her on the couch to get the right angle to reach her paws. Plus I can't sit on the floor because of my bad knees, I can't get back up. Larry thinks if we use a grinder she would tolerate that more. I know she'd stay, she is very compliant. I wondered if the grinder would bother her. That is another consideration. She does let me shave her rear. We sometimes call her Buff Butt or fluff butt because of all that fur back there. She does tolerate shaving so I was hoping she'd tolerate the grinder.

If she lets you shave her, I'm sure you're right and she won't mind the grinding. Sorry, I can't help you with whether they're worth it or not.

I ordered a peticure 2 weeks ago. they said it would take 4 -6 weeks to ship due to demand. I took that as a good sign. My dogs HATE it when I cut their nails. One is terrified of anything that makes noise. I am keeping my fingers crossed

We take Blue to Petsmart and they trim her nails for $5.00 every few months and I never have to worry about her getting weird around me and she doesn't seem to mind them doing it as long as we're standing there. Her vet will do it for free if I take her by, but she gets a little nervous when we take her there. My mom always had poodles and she clipped their fur and their nails and never had a problem...course this is long before the petipaw grinder thingy.

Connie, do they clip Blue's nails or use the grinder? I just put it off and put it off because I just don't have the strength in my hands to clip her nails. and the vet doesn't get them short enough Those dogs on tv stand up while they are getting their nails done and don't look afraid at all. But I wonder how much they practiced on them or if they're drugged.

Last time it looked like clippers to me. It's been about 3 weeks now. She's also due for a vet visit soon, so I'll probably let them clip them this next time. If you've always groomed your dog yourself, it should be easier for you and the dog, but not every dog is the same. And most pets are a little weird or ticklish about their feet.

I was wondering about them too. I just tried to clip my dog's nails yesterday. I have a pet nail clipper but on the second nail the side of his nail split. I stopped right there because I suspect that the clipper must be too dull. quote:

I'm not sure how it compares to other brands, but it might feel a little cheap. I guess it's hard to judge for sure, since I have nothing to compare it to. The dogs are sort of okay with it, but we've only used it a couple of times on them. They like it better than the clippers.
