As many of you know, Priscilla McGruder has had a recurrance of her cancer. I know many prayers are being prayed for her. I met the McGruders as a teenager, and they have been a tremendous inspiration to me over the years. I know many prayers are being prayed for this great lady of faith.

I will pray for this lady. You might want to post this over in the prayer thread. A lot of us pray daily over the request listed there.

I have been praying since I read this news in SN. Come Fly With the McGruders was one of the first tapes I purchased after I started listening to SG, and is still one of my favorites. I love her distinctive voice and enthusiastic spirit.

For those who are newcomers to southern gospel, The McGruders were at the prime in the late 80's and early 90's with songs such as "Saved By Grace," "Thanks," "I've Just Started Living," "Going Home With Jesus," "Special," "I Can Go to the Master," and many other greats. Their concerts were exciting and Spirit-filled. In those days, the group consisted of Carroll and Priscilla McGruder and Stan Cook as the front line singers. Denny Autry played keyboards and sang selected songs. Other musicians included Landy Ewing, Eric McGruder, Larry Carter, and others. After Stan Cook left the group, The McGruders scaled back on their concerts. Most recently, only Carroll and Priscilla traveled. Their latest "big" song was "Heaven's Point of View," an outstanding and powerful song. My all-time favorite recording is "Come Fly With the McGruders," a live album recorded in Jonesboro, Arkansas, with introduction by Ronnie Hinson.

Yep! I have highlighted my 2 favs...of course, the CATS did "...Living" Wow! did they ever. I was with them in the studio when they cut it, and at the first concert where they sang it LIVE, just a few days later. It was electric from the first moment. The Glory fell in the studio! Later, I will post the link where I blog about it. I first heard the McG's at The Forum in Jonesboro, AR. The great Paul Boden was the promoter. They burned the place down that night!

Thanks DBM! You are awesome Bro! Go over to The Prophets thread and suggest a song or two for Eddie and I to consider.

I first saw the McGruders in 1989 and I was blown away. As mentioned by others Come Fly... is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded in Southern Gospel music. My favorite McGruder songs included "Saved By Grace", "I'm Going Home With Jesus", "To Me He's Become Everything", "Way Too Close To Turn And Go Back Now", "Most Of All" (the list could easily continue). Priscilla is a special person. There was a special moment that occurred after one of their concerts that I will never forget. During the program I was having myself a time, enjoying every minute of their program. After the program I went to the product table and Priscilla mentioned how much I blessed her that night. I didn't know what to say because I was going to tell her how much I was blessed. She mentioned she was watching me from the stage and that she was blessed that a teenage boy was not ashamed to praise the lord. This was not the only instance of her kindness. I have several other stories that endeared me to this family and their music. My prayers are with Priscilla in this hour of need.

I promoted two concerts with the McGruders as a teenager. Both were at a rural high school in south Louisiana. The first was standing room only. Carroll told me that night that he knew professional promoters who didn't have that kind of success...made a 17-year-old feel pretty good. I remember seeing Priscilla briefly as she came into the auditorium. She disappeared into the school. I am certain she found an empty classroom and spent the time in prayer until concert time. She is known as a lady of prayer. In fact, most of Priscilla's sisters are also married to preachers and are known as people of prayer. I have a two album record, produced by the United Pentecostal Church International and recorded live in 1984 at the Harvestime Songfest at the General Conference. Carroll was the Master of Ceremonies for the evening, and the McGruders sang "He Changed My Life" and "Warmin' Up," followed by Murrell Ewing singing "What's That I Hear?" Talk about havin' church! (It's on the turntable right now.)

I live about 30 minutes from Kennett, MO where Carol and Priscilla are from. I love her spirit and her ability to write such wonderful powerful songs. I am praying daily for her.

I have been praying for Priscilla the past few months but I appreciate the reminder. I've never had the opportunity to see them in person but their music has meant a lot to me over the years. Some of my favorites were "Special," "Most of All," and, more recently "From Heaven's Point of View."

have to say. no group in SG put on as powerful concerts as McGruders. as Ronnie Hinson said on Come Fly. The concerts weren't about pure crisp harmony((they had it)) or about how perfect a suit looked. if you ever saw them live you know they were there to have Church. the end song on Come Fly is a main reason I hate tracks. Warming Up. cause Carrol was warming up on that song. I dont make a single mix cd for my truck that doesn't include that song on it

I was not there, but I have the record!

The McGruders are wonderful people, I had the pleasure of playing drums with them at some Campmeetings and Youth Conventions in MO in the early to mid 1980's before they hit the road hard and heavy. I loved playing Warmin' Up, even though it was made famous by the McGruders, Carroll did not write that song as many probably think. I'm Just Warming Up was written by another camp friend, Tom Trimble from the St. Louis area. Greg Long who played the bass after Landy Ewing left and I grew up together and his dad, Huey Long pastored a couple of different UPCI churches in our section over the years. I pray for Sis. Priscilla's recovery just about everyday, she is a Great Prayer Warrior.

I was aware that Bro. McGruder did not write "Warmin' Up," but I didn't realize Tom Trimble wrote it! It seems like I heard the Freemans sing that song also. It alway fit best in a church setting. I heard them sing it at Astro World in Houston, TX (Six Flags) back in the late 80's or early 90's. Upon Sis. McGruders recovery, I would love to see a full-fledged McGruder reunion tour, with Stan Cook and the band.

They staged the song quite a bit in the late '80s.

I doubt anyone will release a live album as powerful spiritually as that album. I listen to any of it and get goosebumps and just want to cry I couldn't have been at that recording. wasn't entertainment there but pure Church
