What do you guys think of the Reality Houses some churches do during Halloween? I personally have a negative attitude toward them. For those of you that don't know what they are. It's set up kinda like a Haunted House, except it takes you through a life of someone who was born again and someone who was not, and went to hell. These can be really scary and for that reason most churches won't allow children under 12. At the end there are people asking you if you've been saved and if you'd like to be saved. And if you are saved could you give a testimony. It's geared to scare people into getting saved and that's my problem with them. I'm afraid some people will agree to get saved due to fear or pressure and not for the love of Jesus Christ. I'm afraid it puts people on the spot especially in front of other people and they may do it with the wrong heart. Then they will go thru their lives thinking they are saved cuz they said a prayer and not really be. What are your thoughts?

I see both sides of it. On one hand, it could be coercion and/or making people say a short "'Lord Jesus, come into my heart, amen' okay, now you're saved, let me pat you on the head" prayer. Are these people discipled and/or followed up with, or are they just a notch on the evangelist's belt? On the other hand, if you read something like Edwards' "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God," there is precedence for presenting the graphic reality of one's eternal destiny. To be presented with the (albeit horrible and offensive) truth CAN cause people to come to Christ. The wages of sin (death and hell) are certainly part of the gospel message. Nowhere in Scripture does it say that people must come to Christ solely out of love for Him - people have been saved when in dire peril and facing a Christless eternity. I don't think their salvation is any less valid than that of those who come to Jesus via a gentle wooing. So yeah, I'm undecided.

Does it result in faith or fear? Which one does God ask of us?

What? I too have never heard or attended anything like that. It's a little abrassive. Aren't we supposed to be, persistant as a fox yet gentle as a dove? I once heard a story from a Christian friend that really hit home for me when stepping out in faith to lead others to God. He had said, "Can you imagine being on your way to heaven,in a glass elevator, and as you are ascending passing by a crowd of people (friends, family and strangers.) Going in the other direction,...don't you dread the thought of hearing them say,'You didn't even try to tell us?' Thereforth shouldn't we make every effort to reach out to our fellowman? Surely we do not need to resort to "Scare tactics"
