I went to church yesterday and we were doing our talking about our week/ prayer requests when one of my friends spoke up saying that some already knew but here goes ~ On Wednesday night around ten she was getting ready for bed when the phone rang. She was informed that her sister had sold her 10 year old daughter. She went into a short history of her sister having 5 children but lost custody of all of them but this one and is pregnant again. So she calls the police who transfer over to the juvenile courts. About one in the morning they track down who had this little girl. She tried calling several times with no answer but later in the morning they called her wanting to know why she was calling. She explained that she was the aunt and she wanted her. She said she would fight in court if she had to and she has already told that she will get her since she is family and in a stable environment. Thankfully the lady on the other end said she was not wanting to fight but was told the girl would starve to death if she did not take her. She also found out that the girl was not sold but given away since her new boyfriend did not like her. They then left that afternoon for Alabama to get her and on their return trip her niece was in a state of shock and did not talk at all. She was also very ill. She got home on Friday and put her in a shower and took her straight to our local doctor who is wonderful by the way. He found that she had a horrible bladder infection that had been there a long time and was so constipated she was impacted. She has been molested more then once and physically abused as well. They went through her stuff and none of her clothes fit and has one pair of flip flops for shoes. She has no toys and probably never had any. When she was asked about what toys she likes she said that she had toys there but she will not play with them. She is very grown up for her age. She probably had to in order to survive.
To make matters worse is her husband just lost his job. Her birthday is coming up and she wants to throw her niece a party since she has never had one before. A lady in the class who makes cakes said she would be happy to make one at no charge. Not surprising I got called at home a couple hours after church that our class is wanting people to go through their pantry's and closets to find things for the family and their new addition. She has already filed the paperwork for custody. So she has a new child but it is so sad how she became a "mom" again. I am in shock that any mother would treat her own child like that. I cannot imagine what could break that bond that mothers feel for their children.

Oh my goodness that's horrifying! She was given away because her mother's new boyfriend didn't like her? It's bad enough when that happens to dogs and cats, but to a child? I am so glad that your friend has her now, she is so lucky to be out of that terrible situation.

You remember the mom who drove her babies into a lake because her boyfriend didn't want them around.

I don't understand it, either. Oh, I understanding wanting a man...but I don't get sacrificing your children (or his, for that matter) for it. It's the opposite of motherly love.

That isn't wanting a man that is just obsession. I can't imagine a man telling me I can't have my daughter or that he just doesn't like her and doesn't want her around. Needless to say he would be out of here in the blink of an eye.

That is just awful.

I was reading in the paper a few days ago that in the last month two sets of parents have been arrested for trying to sell their children - one tried on Ebay, the other tried on Craigslist.

I was hoping it was all just some sick joke, but....

Horrific.

I see so many women doing terrible things to themselves and their families in order to keep some creep of a man, and I just don't get it.

I hope that little girl can find some healing now, in a loving, safe environment.

Oh that poor little girl. I hope she is able to get the help she needs.

Thank GOD for those who are willing to love those who have been hurt so badly.

Hopefully the girl will be able to get past some of the horror she has experienced, now that she is in a loving, safe home.

I heard about the Craigslist thing... the parents were quite bewildered. It was their attempt at a funny birth announcement to their online friends. Misguided and pretty stupid, but not an actual attempt to sell a baby. I think they have the baby back now.

This happens more than we like to think about in the young drug culture.

Unfortunately it isn't that rare. If you've ever worked with kids in foster care you would see just how evil some parents are towards their own children. Selfish and insecure women who get their identity by being in a relationship with a man will sell their children out more often than not. It makes me sick and angry.

It makes me sick and angry too. That's why I'm getting into foster care.

I don't have a ton of space, or a lot of spare time, and I'm not a perfect parent, but what I am capabale of providing is 100x better than THAT!
