I believe in righteous anger and that their are biblical reasons for anger. I know alot of it also lies in how the anger is shown too. What I want to know is what about when people are angry about personal events in life. Recently I got some news I didn't want and most I know don't know what to say to me besides they are praying. That's fine. However, my one dear friend I told this weekend said she was mad. Really mad. Mad that I had to deal with this and just mad about all of it. I have felt different emotions I'm not sure mad or anger is one or not. Maybe. Is it righteous or sinful to be angry at such things is my question?

Righteous anger should promote action. Jesus' anger at the Pharisees promoted godly behavior and gave great examples for us today. Anger at world hunger should encouarge us to give. Anger at abortion should prompt us to serve at a Crisis Pregnancy Center or take a teen girl under our wing or discipleship. Anger at social injustice should remind us that "even unto the least of these..." It goes on...if your anger is prompting you to take godly action...then I'd say, do it.

Anger is also part of grief -- not a place to get stuck, but not some kind of sin really. I get angry that bad things happen to those I love, particularly if there is some kind of injustice or il-intent (not just 'bad luck' or poor circumstances). Sin should not exist, and I hate it when sin hurts people I care about.

I was shocked when my friend said she was mad at my recent medical results and mad about my surgery to come. I was concerned about telling her because she lost her husband who was our dear friend as well two years ago. She has a health issue herself and raising her girls. She is not a person who ever gets mad so I was shocked when she said she was really mad and mad at my condition and the surgery to come. I just found out last week and I have had moments of feeling like I don't want this or the surgery etc. I'm not sure if I would call it mad or not. What I want to know is this type of anger sin or understandable in God's eyes?

I think all of us at some point arrive at this destination. For me, I've got notebook after notebook of angry letters to God. I find that writing really helps me be as honest as I can be before God. It's never an easy thing because I'm extremely vulnerable and open and HAVE to examine myself. In doing this, I often find that while I'm examing my motives for being angry, I realize that I'm looking at the short side of things...and as I go on, God--in His time--reveals to me the scope of the circumstance. I think the key in 'righteous anger' is dealing with it. The flesh in me wants to turn away and believe that I can handle things on my own. I'm confident that God would rather us be open and honest before Him than to become distant or pretend that everything is okay--when in reality, He already knows!

I'm confident that God would rather us be open and honest before Him than to become distant or pretend that everything is okay--when in reality, He already knows! I know I like to handle things on my own too but in reality I know I need the Lord. Not just right now but I need him more and more everyday as times goes by. With this upcoming surgery I need his peace and help with trusting him while dealing with the unknown and the what if's. So, I would say I am unhappy with dealing with this and have wished it was someone else rather than me. Not that I wish anyone else to have it really just saying I don't want to have anything. I think I agree with you that God would prefer us being honest with him and he already knows our thoughts anyway. Some preach/teach that we should praise God in all things and I guess either I disagree or I haven't arrived to a place that I praise him right off for less pleasant things.

Scripure states in 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. and in 1 Corinthians 10:31 So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. So no matter what we are faced with...God still provides a way of not giving in to temptation. We can choose the godly path. and in 2 Corinthians 1:5 For as we share abundantly in Christ's sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. [1] 6 If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. 7 Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. All these verses confirm that we will suffer and God is there with us to give us comfort. The places I find in the bible with man getting angry with God are not very pretty. However, David does a great service for us today by expressing himself, even in the darkest of times, very well in the Psalms.
