What does seeking mean to all of you? How do you do it? What is your intention when you purpose yourself to seek? The easy answer would be that the purpose is to find but is there more than that?

To me, "seeking" is when I long for the Lord's wisdom, and fervently ask for it in prayer and look for it in His Word. There is a desire in my heart that "seeks" to know God more...to understand His will and His truth. It's a desire for me to stay on the narrow path and to continue to look to His way instead of my way.

So you have a specific time when you pray and read the Word with the sole intention of knowing more of God?

Mari,

I have a signature to go along with your avatar, and which also fits nicely with this thread:

"...if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure..." (Prov. 2:4}

Afterall, aren't we suppossed to receive the kingdom of God like a little child? Looks like that kid's got a lot of faith!

"I love those who seek me, and those who seek me find me" Pro. 8:17

"Blessed are they who keep his statues and seek him with all their heart"
Ps. 119:2

“So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened." Lk 11:9-10

Seeking to me is going on a spiritual quest to fill the hunger within. I seek by studying and implementing what I study and learn into my everyday life.

I think it depends on what you are seeking.

Like playing hide and seek as a child, or a childish adult, we are only seeking to find a person who is hiding with no more intent. We don't want to know anything other than where they are.

In regards to seeking the Lord, we seek to know more. Of Him, about Him, what He wills for us to do, and how to actually do that. We seek a relationship to grow into. We seek to find the narrow path which only comes through the Son.

While it takes only a matter of minutes, or seconds to find a person, it may take a lifetime to find Jesus. Once we do, it takes the rest of our life to get to know Him.

Seeking can also imply a wanting, like I seek to be rich or famous. To that all I can say is Seek first the Kingdom

33But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
(Matthew 6)

Now that doesn't mean to seek God and He will make us rich and famous, even though some people teach things like that. To me nothing else compares and I agree with Paul when he said he counts it all as rubbish

8What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ(Philippians 3)

The awesome thing about seeking is that it goes both ways, and sometimes it is actually just one sided. His side. He seeks us out as He leaves the 99 to find the one. Isn't that awesome.

If you keep reading in this passage you'll see Jesus is talking about giving the Holy Spirit to those who ask. Every good thing comes to us via the Holy Spirit.

I am assuming that you are referring to seeking God. To seek God to me means searching for Him in His Word, in prayer, and in praise. It is seeking to know Him for who He is and what He His will is for my life, what pleases Him. If you seek Him with all of your heart, all of your mind, all your strength, and all of your being, He will reveal all these things to you. It is like a search out of desperation, and when you feel that desperation and seek Him desperately and longingly, He will reveal Himself. As another poster put it, He loves it when you seek Him in this way. He enjoys our seeking, and He will share the joy that He feels with us for seeking Him.

It is an easy answer IMHO: It's to find Him as expressed in Jeremiah 29:11-13 If you seek me You shall find me! If you seek me with all your heart.

Not only that the NT also references the Pearl of Great Price. When you find that pearl you will sell all you have to obtain it!

So what is it that you seek?
