Any Steve Earle fans out there? I think the man is a tremendously gifted songwriter. I own the following CD's: Copperhead Road Train A Coming I Feel Alright El Corazon Transcendental Blues The Mountain (bluegrass album with the Del McCoury Band) I didn't feel compelled to purchase any of his more recent albums, based on so-so reviews among other things (like the increasingly political content of his lyrics)....but I read his latest, "Washington Square Serenade" is supposed to be good, so I may check it out. Any thoughts on the man and / or his music?

I don't care for his opinions either, but I do indeed like the music. I wouldn't expect any of us on this board to agree with his left wing political stance. But I feel he's crafted some terrific music. When the political messages drown out the music (later albums like "Jerusalem", "The Revolution Starts Now", etc. ), that's when I'm not interested. The albums I own are short on politics, and long on quality roots-rock, IMHO. Blessings.

Ok, that said I dig his "Copperhead Road" era and that's mainly because I once was in what's now called an "alt country" band several years ago and we covered that tune and I believe a couple others that are slipping my mind. I'd much rather listen to Hal Ketchum. He's a little more Americana to me.

There's an interview with him in the most recent (here in the US, anyway) Mojo magazine. Haven't read it yet as I just picked it up today, but I'll make note of anything that might be of interest to those posting on this thread and board. Musically, I really liked his first three albums. Haven't heard enough of his most recent releases to make an informed comment.
