Do you know the Spiritual relevance of the armor of God as in Ephesians 6:10-18; also - do you know how to apply it to your own spiritual life?

Some good links to the Armor of God:

Every day, we face temptation, trials, etc. and the only way to successfully defend ourselves against these is to be prepared. Being prepared means putting on the whole armor of God, just as the scripture says.
How do you put each one on? I would suggest praying that scripture every day (reading it as you do), until it becomes second nature. But also I would suggest staying in the Word (truth). It is a very good idea to have a confidence that comes from knowing you are the righteousness of God (2 Corinthians 5:21), and that just like Abraham, we are credited with righteousness by faith, not by works (Romans 4:3).
I would suggest knowing what to say to an unsaved person about Jesus (your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace). If we know what to say ahead of time we will not be dragged through rabbit trail after rabbit trail in our conversation.
I would suggest remembering what God has done for you in the past. If you are a Christian, God has saved your soul (at the very least). I would dare say that He has done much more than that, and remembering when God came through will help you raise that shield of faith to know that He can do so again.
As for the helmet of salvation, when Satan talks to Christians, he appeals to our minds. He makes us think about something. The helmet of salvation (remember, you're a child of the King, and you can tell him to take a hike) can stop that. There's a great deal more IMO, but that's a start.
The sword of the spirit. The word of God. Learn it. Learn it some more. And when you think you know enough, learn some more. There will always be more to learn from God's word.

Thanks armydude. I appreciate your input which helps.

The Lord has been teaching me about the armor very much over this past year and I did not realise it! I still very much need to learn to define it better so that I know how to 'put it on' easily and readily each day 'spiritually' so to speak.

I want to put together a quick and easy reference re: the armor of God so that it is easy to learn and hopefully a help to others also. That's my hope anyway......

All other help appreciated folks.

Yes, I agree to pray each day after all that is our breath, the very stuff that keeps us Christians alive as it is communication with God and connection with Him. Through prayer we are able to have the breastplate of righteousness which lines up with all law abiding actions inspired with mercy and love.

Loins girded with truth are exactly that my loins and I have a plate on those as well. I am fully consecrated to God and am faithful to Him. The shoes of peace allow me to walk in places where there is unrest and bring peace there. The sword of truth are my words, which (when closely guarded) can control my whole body and also fight against the devil and his wiles. The armour protects me when I use my sword when I am wholly faithful (with my loin guard) and wholly righteous (with my walk and actions). This can only happen when I abide in Him.

Ephesians 6:10 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. 11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;

Truth - His truths
Righteousness - His Righteousness (We are righteous only through the blood of Jesus).
Gospel of Peace - Be prepaired to share the good news of Jesus.
Faith - Stand strong in our faith
Salvation - Know that we are redeemed through Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Word of God - Scripture (Note this is the only offensive peace of armour). Just as Jesus used it to respond to satan's temptation, so should we study it and bring it to mind to help us respond to any temptation.
Prayer - Praying always.

We should get up each morning thinking about Him, talking to Him, seeking and doing His will. Serving and pleaseing the Lord should be our focus and top priority each and every day. Striving to reflect His light, His love to others. We can only do this through His power. Staying in His word and seeking understanding. And talking with Him, and seeking His help throughout the day.

It is not something that you can put on and take off.

The whole armour is not something that most Christians think about or even see as a spiritual goal mainly because IT is a lifestyle. The armour is gained through the continued renewing of our hearts and minds. When our will becomes His will, we know that we can weather any storm.

Ephesians 6:11 tells us to "put on the whole armor of God."

I believe it is possible to know about the armor and yet not know how to use it, e.g. I can have the 'breastplate of righteousness' securely in place i.e. I can believe I am saved by grace through faith and that my sins are forgiven and be adamant about such; however, when the 'fiery' darts come I also need to take up the 'shield of faith' to quench (put out) the fiery arrows of the opposition; also I have to yield the 'Sword of the Spirit' by speaking God's promises into the situation (see Ephesians 6:11) and so on ....... i.e. all the weapons have to be applied.

Up until recently, I knew about the armor of God but always skipped the passage in Ephesians which records it. It just seemed too much effort to study it I am ashamed to say. I hope this does not shock; however this is the truth sadly. I thank God that He is a merciful and patient God and that He has shown me the great relevance of such today; however, it has taken much tribulation for me to realise it's significance and importance. It is my hope and prayer that those who have read this thread and who are still not aware of the importance of the spritual armor - that they will make every effort to find out more about it and learn to apply it for themselves. They will not be disappointed and I believe the Lord will bless their efforts to study and show themselves approved......

(belt) Truth - His truths
(breastplate) Righteousness - His Righteousness (We are righteous only through the blood of Jesus).
(sandals) Gospel of Peace - Be prepaired to share the good news of Jesus.
(shield) Faith - Stand strong in our faith
(sword)Word of God - Scripture (Note this is the only offensive peace of armour). Just as Jesus used it to respond to satan's temptation, so should we study it and bring it to mind to help us respond to any temptation.
(praying in the Spirit) Prayer - Praying always.

A soldier would not be well enough prepared to face the battle victoriously unless he:

1 puts on his whole armor;
2 Just as important - once the armour is in place, the soldier then needs to learn to apply his armor appropriately.

Just to walk around with armor on is not going to protect the soldier and therefore the soldier has to know and learn how to use it also or he will end up defeated when the battle comes.

The shield of faith is also very important and without the shield the weapons of the devil could wound us. All of this is trhrough prayer and supplication.

Here are some easy-to-learn bullet points in an outline which I hope are of some help to any who are interested in God's armour:

THE ARMOUR OF GOD
EPHESIANS 6:14-18

• LIVE it – the 'Belt of Truth' (v 14a) – love truth and live in truth - don't lie; hate lies and every falsehood

• LEAN on it – the 'Breastplate of Righteousness' (v 14b) - don't depend on your own self-righteousness - lean on Christ - He is our righteousness

• LOVE it – the 'Sandals of Peace' (v 15) - love peace; seek peace; live peacefully with all wherever possible; and spread the Gospel of peace wherever you go

• LIFT it – the 'Shield of Faith' (v 16) - the enemy wants to destroy our faith, discourage us and bring us down in our spirits. The enemy wants to have us depend on our 'feelings' rather than on 'faith'. We should not allow him to emphasise our feelings and instead we need to lift up our praises in faith (i.e. despite our feelings) and the enemy will flee!

• LEAD with it – the 'Helmet of Salvation' (v 17a) - through Christ's salvation we are no longer conquered by sin and circumstances but conquerers through Him who loves us. We are the 'head' and no longer the 'tail' - victors and not victims. Let the mind of Christ lead us so that we can take every wrong thought captive and cast it down as it should be.

• LEARN it - the 'Sword of the Spirit' (v 17b) - the better we know God's Word, the better we will be able to use the Word of God to battle against the enemy i.e. LUNGE it!

Also:

• LABOUR in it – i.e. 'Prayer in the Spirit' (v 18a) – pray all kinds of prayer; at all times; also pray for the one another

• LOOK about – Be alert (v 18b) - don't become complacent - we have an enemy who is looking for ways to trip us up and make us fall

I'm still studying the armor of God and spiritual warfare and how they are linked. I was interested to find that there is more than one part of the armor which is not only defensive but offensive to our enemy (i.e. the Sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God and the Sandals of Peace). I didn't realise that the sandals were also an offensive weapon until I embarked on this study!

Here is a second good link to the armor of God:

Its another way of saying that you should not have an idols. Every answer to life is the same....God.

Outside of God there is no true life. Want the good life? Want answers to the questions life brings? Its all about God.

The interesting part, to me, is the putting on of the armor ( God ). It seems our will plays a part and its part is...?

Submission. Obviously every bit of this armor is formed by God. How do we access it? By a matter of will power? No. Only by submission to the will of God. How do we submit (obey) ?

Loving God. Its what Jesus said...to love God with all your heart. How we "put on the armor" is by loving God more than any other ( the natural man )

Why do we love God? Its pretty simple....because He loved us first. He sent His Son, His only begottne Son, to die horribly on an instrument of torture so we might love Him.

God did that. Not our will power. Not by our ability, but His.

Praise His holy name, Jesus Christ!

Here is something further to wear under your 'helmet of salvation' and your 'breastplate of righteousness':

Our position in Christ

Here is one of the best links I have found regarding Spritual Warfare and it includes two sections dedicated to 'putting on the armor of God'.

This link has a wealth of information.
