I heard that Greg Crowe was not in concert with Poet Voices last weekend in PA. Wonder if he has left the group?

That is no surprise about Mr. Crowe. It's no secret that Phil Cross is a bit hard to work for and history shows numerous changes to the group over the years. I lost interest in Poet Voices when they got rid of Mark Lanier.

I was displeased to see Mark Lanier leave also. It would seem to be an odd time to leave a group right before such a big event as the Great Western Convention.

I was at the concert in PA, they said Greg Crowe took a full time job as music minister at his church.

The first day of the fan festival was great. There is way too much to cover here but I’ll just give some of the highlights.
The show opened with Roy Webb playing a piece and then legacy five and The Hoppers sang “Boundless Love” ( It was great)
Up next was:
Liberty Quartet – I thought they did a very good set, and I was really impressed. They featured their bass singer quite a lot and I have to say he is one of the smoothest and best I have heard. I can’t wait to hear more from them.
Then the Johnson family sang, and they did an absolutely stunning performance of “How great thou art.”
More Highlights( not in order of performance):
Herb Henry family: Turned in a great set, and had the crowd on their feet with “Looking for a city”. I also liked the new songs they were featuring.
Hoppers: My friends and I agree that Dean was probably singing the best we have ever heard, and when is Kim ever not superb. They had a huge choir behind them for several songs, and it really added to “Jerusalem” and “Grace will always be greater Than sin”
Legacy Five: This was the first time for me to see them do “I go to the rock” live and it was even better than on the cd.
Booth Brothers- They closed the show and were excellent. Some of the songs were “He saw it all”, “Look for Me”, and “I’ve been Changed”.
Of the other groups that performed I was most impressed by the Kings Heralds( Who did an a cappella song from among the audience, like the NQC) and RSV.
Can't wait for tomorrow with the showcases and other activities.

Day 2:
I have to say that I think today topped yesterday. The evening concert was just great, and the sing along hosted by Gerald Wolfe was fantastic.
The day started off with a devotional with Connie Hopper, and Kim Hopper sang a song off her upcoming cd. After this they had a best of the west showcase and I thought that Higher ground was the best.
Then came the highlight of the day for me. The sing along celebration was great. Gerald had everyone sing several old hymns to start it off, and then he became a director by creating groups on the fly and having them sing. He had Rodney Griffin, Les Beasely, Connie Hopper, and Ed O’neal sing. Then Gerald sang with the Hoppers on a song, which was great.
Then he joined Kim, Dean, and Glen Dustin to sing “What a lovely Name” They had to encore and left the crowd going crazy.( This was my favorite moment of the concert)
The Evening concert:
The Johnson Family opened with another beautiful set, that set the bar for the rest of the night.
Dixie Melody Boys- This was the first time for me to see them since the recent changes, and they did a great job. My favorite moment from there set was “Happy Rhythm” They were absolutely hilarious with there dance moves, and had the audience rolling.
Poet Voices- I have been a big fan of the Poet Voices, and Mitchel Jon so I was anxious to see them. They did not disappoint but a big surprise was seeing Dave McVay( also from Three bridges) Singing with them instead of Greg Crowe. I didn’t get a chance to see if he was permanently with the group or just filing in.
Greater Vision- They opened with “My name is Lazarus” and then went right into “It means just what it says” They sang some others, and then closed with an awesome rendition of “Til the storm passes by.” ( I think he said it was the new version that would be on his cd)
The other standout groups that performed were:
The Booth Brothers, Legacy Five and The Hoppers, and what I said last night holds today. They were there normal great selves. The evening closed with shouting time, and the place came unglued. It was the perfect end to a great day.

Day Three:
Today was another great day of music. Besides the singing, I got to meet Keith Waggoner, of Liberty Quartet. While I was talking with him, a lurker of the forums started talking with us, so hopefully we encouraged her to join in.
VIP reception:
The day started with a artist reception for people with VIP tickets. It was hosted by liberty quartet, and they provided some great music for the event. Thanks again Liberty for the fantastic job.
The best of the west today had quite a few groups who were very talented and connected with the audiences. I especially liked the riversboys quartet. They had a great sound and a full band.
The Songwriters showcase, hosted by Phil Cross, was great just as it was at the NQC. Some of the writers included were: Phil Cross, Rodney Griffin, Doran Ritchey ( From liberty) Mitchel Jon, and Jim Davis( writer of Preach the Word) The story behind the hoppers song, “Yes I am” was hilarious.
The Evening Concerts:
I thought that all of the groups tonight brought their A games. Some of my highlights are:
RSV- They were a lot of fun, and sounded great. They had the audience in their hands with their first song that featured their tenor.
Poet Voices- These guys turned in another great set. This was the first time that I got to see Phil sing my favorite song he has written, “One Holy Lamb.” Jeff Pearles joined them, and they had the crowd on their feet. Phil set the song up by telling us how he got the idea, and it made the song even more powerful.
Liberty Quartet- These guys were really good again. The highlight of their set for me was a song written by Keith. They also performed “City that’s coming down” and had Greater Vision join them on stage, Good Stuff.
Herb Henry Family- These guys are one of my favorite groups, and they continued to show why I think they are the best group from California( and one of the best in the Country). I really liked their performance of “His hand in mine.”
The Hoppers- They turned in a great set and had the crowd on their feet with Jerusalem.
Greater Vision- They had the best set of the night in my opinion. They did “my name is lazarus”, “There is a river”, “He’d a still been God”. Then Gerald talked about Jason, and then he had him sing “Victory in Jesus” a cappella and it was very beautiful. I can’t wait to see these guys in concert on Tuesday in Antioch  .
Overall This was a great weekend, and I already have my tickets for next year.

Fossinater, thanks for the review! My husband and I only went for Saturday this year, and it was a great time! I would have loved to at least been there Friday too, since we missed L5 and Booth Brothers. But there was certainly enough great music to not be disappointed with our shorter visit this year.
A friend that was there the whole time said that she thought the attendance was holding its own, so that is encouraging. Hopefully this event will continue for many years to come!
