What Was Your Biggest Beauty Disaster?High school hair in the late 80s — on a daily basis. Bad perms, teased bangs, Sun In brassiness, AquaNet fog. Just flip through a 1986 yearbook for proof.

1977 was worse.
We were just learning how to use blow dryers and curling irons.

In the mid 80's me and mom had matching mullets. I used to crimp my hair with a crimping iron in the late 80's. LOL! When I turned 13 in the mid 90's, the cool thing was to dye your hair maroon almost purple, so I did. My friend from high school was Mexican and she used to wear black lipliner and chapstick. She would use a Coke can to shape her bangs while she drenched them in hairspray. She would get liquid eyeliner and and paint on a fake eyelashes at the outside crease of her eyes. Soooooo tacky! It was a Mexican chola thing.

High School- The years I didn't know I could be beautiful without the perm, teased hair and over abundance of make-up. A little natural grooming goes a long way!

I remember wanting to do Sun In, but I didn't have any, but I had heard that lemon juice did the same thing. But, all I had was lemonade. So I sprayed lemonade in my hair and went to school. My hair was so sticky and nasty looking by the time I got there and it dried. I got teased really bad that day. I was in 5th grade I think.

I had the kinky curly perm, then for a while I just permed my bangs so they would be big and poofy!

Then I tried the "layerd shag" hair cut, oh boy oh boy....

I can't think of anything that was a disaster. I had a perm when I was very young, but I still think I looked cute when I see the pictures. I didn't wear makeup until after high school so no disaster stories there. I have always had straight hair so no disaster stories there. I thought that most of the styles (big hair, big bangs) were yuck so I never tried them. Plus, I am lazy and don't like trying new things with my hair.

I guess I was just too boring!

I grew up in the 80's, but my mom insisted on dressing me like she dressed in the 70's. I probably looked better than most of my classmates, by just try showing up to school in pink bellbottoms in 1989 and see if you don't get teased.

I also started wearing glasses in the 3rd grade, before they made wire-glasses for kids. Mine were big, plastic and hideous. Of course, so were everyone else's, so maybe I blended

And then there were the three years that I wore braces and was convinced that if red was my favorite color, red braces would look phenomenal. I looked like I had pizza sause all over my teeth. For three years

I did the green o-rings in honor of my favorite color. I looked like I had just finished a spinach salad for three years... and thought it looked great!

Two things . . .

(1)
In my later teens, I dyed my hair black black black (my skin, btw, is translucent).

In the back, there was a huge circular spot near the top / back of my head where NO color took. So I sent my dad to the store to buy TWO more boxes of black black black and used them both on my hair (total of 3, now).

I looked like Elvira had died.

(2)
In my early 20's I discoverd a sorta of electric green eyeshadow that was "subdued" by gold flecks throughout it. I loved that stuff and used it on my entire eyelids.

I did that, too!! I don't hardly think it was anywhere close to my worst mistake! With the loads of teased hair, I can't imagine anyone noticing the blue mascara!

Mine was wearing my hair long in high school, when it was too thick and bushy and curly to wear long, esp. cause in high school, I didn't know about hair products much. Even though, before that, at age 12, I knew I should have it short . In college I wore it long, but at least I used lots of conditoners/hair glaze/gels. I've worn it short now since about age 28, except for the one year I was growing it out for locks of love, but that year I always flat ironed it or wore it up (the picture in the avatar is from that year). Then it turned out locks of love didn't want highlighted hair, so it was all too much to do about nothing. Always do the research first, he he.

Huge bangs/too much hairspray (late 80s, early 90s) but hey -- who didn't?

When I was 18-19 I asked my mom to highlight my hair at home with the cap. Eek. My husband said it looked like a skunk. Bleached streaks on dark brown hair.

Also when I was 18-19ish, I cut my hair short. That was before flat irons were invented and I have naturally curly, poofy hair. It was not good.

I'm amazed at the fact that as recent as the late 90s (when I was in high school), all we had was hair spray, mousse and gels. We didn't have smoothers, shiners, heat protectants, etc. and there were no flat irons, just different-sized curling irons that didn't get very hot. Life is so much better with a flat iron. ahhhhh.

My biggest disaster was when I tried to go as blonde as I could get.

Ended up baby poop green.

Or was the worst one the time I ended up with stop sign red hair?

Oh, same here. I couldn't be seen without it. And a LOT of it. I wear very little now, lol.

Me and my cousin one day (we were in third grade-1990) put on leggings, a huge t-shirt, with the little tie up thiny on the bottom, and our training bras/under shirts, and let the shirt hang off our shoulder. We also put our hair in side ponytails with our bright blue eye shadow....we thought we were so cool. Until mom saw us and made us wash our faces and wear our shirts in a "decent" manner.

When I was a kid, I competed in figure skating, so we always wore a lot of makeup and our hair was so hard and crunchy from the hairspray. So when I got to hight school, I didn't want to wear any make up.

But I certainly made a whole lot of fashion mistakes. Early in high school, I dressed like a boy - sweatpants and baggy t-shirts.

I've always been very conservative with my hair, so it's been varying shades of blonde but nothing else. My hair doesn't hold a curl, so I never permed it (even though I really wanted to).

People laugh when I tell them my 17 month old daughter has a line of hair products that we use each day. But her hair is an afro, and it needs to be done each day. And I certainly don't want her in a discussion like this 20 years from now saying "my mom didn't know what to do with my hair!"

Mine was some weird kind of blue it showed up really well and very noticeable I would wear out when I went to skating ring LOL

I remeber one time trying to do highlights myself wanted few blonde ones instead turned my hair red >_>
