I met a widow the other day. She and her husband had been married 60 years. They have 7 children, 19 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. The person who introduced me to this lovely woman is a friend of one of the granddaughters. She said she remembered the husband was always saying to everyone he met, "Have you met my wife? She is the most beautiful woman in the world!" At this point the widow blushed and said her husband did indeed say that all the time. She is now 88 years old and he just passed away in December of last year. She said in the last few years she would respond with "Honey I'm old!" He would reply "Not to me you're not! You're still the most beautiful woman in the world!" I thought that was so sweet. I also thought it was just wonderful that the granddaughters friend remembered that so clearly. What a lovely way to be remembered! We read on this site often about how men are visual and need a beautiful wife to be happy. This man is proof that true love can make an 88 year old woman look like the most beautiful woman in the world!

That is beautiful! You know what else is awesome? This young friend of the granddaughter is seeing an example of how a husband should treat his wife! Awesome!

Those are my thoughts exactly. Having grown up the child of divorce I can tell you seeing positive examples of what marriage should be were so important to me. The friend of the granddaughter is now grown and married herself. We all need to remember that the way children (our own and others) see our marriages will form the building blocks for their own marriages.

You story reminds me of an elderly couple (both in their eighties) in a church I attended 15 years ago...She had Parkinson's disease, he was a little old frail man in the early stages of Alzheimer's, yet he looked at her and treated her as if she were the most beautiful woman in the world, and she looked at him and saw a man strong enough to fight grizzlies for her.

The sad thing to me is that I don't know if my son or grandchildren (God willing) will ever have that experience--the experience of seeing the love and devotion of a couple that has stood the test of time. It seems like that type of love is dying out with my grandparent's generation...maybe a few in my parents, but I don't see it in mine.

..... I think this is cool...

My boss is the same way with his wife... and I always wanted to be like that, too...

Being intentional in our love is sooo important!!

Why my hubby talks to me on the phone... he always starts out, "Hey beautiful..."

I can't even explain what good that does for my heart...
