CostCo is apparently going to be introduced to Australia in the forseeable future, and I was wondering what people thought of it, who've already been to their stores.

How do the pricing of products compare to other stores? What about the quality? What are your favourite products that you buy from their stores?

Is it worth paying the annual fee? Would you get your money's worth from the annual fee?

Any positive or negative feedback?

I LOVE IT!

Ours gets REAL crowded on the weekends, so I avoid it (like can't get down the aisles busy). But they have a lot of stuff and some of it is cheaper retail (clothes, books etc). electronics and stuff are marked down. Got a good deal on a vacuum.

Costco sells high quality stuff.

I probably break even every year but I have it because of the bakery, etc. I get such short notices of parties etc that I can stop and pick stuff up. The pies and cakes are real good and made fresh every day.

I have mixed feelings about Costco.

I don't know if you get your money back, as I have never really compared the prices to comparable quantities at a grocery store. The thing to remember is that it's all in bulk. If you don't have space for it, it's not worth buying there., which is why I cancelled my membership.

They have quality items and many many name brands. They have contracts with different companies, though, so you may only find 1 or 2 choices, rather than 5 or 6 at a regular grocery store.

My costcos are always packed too and you can't ever find parking. If you can't deal with crowds, you wouldn't enjoy it.

I shop at Costco and have an Executive membership that costs about $100 a year. At the end of the year I get back 2% of all I've spent that year and what I get back pays for the membership and more. Their quality is tops and I buy not only food there but books, clothes for dh and the boys, kitchenware and more. I've always found their prices to be much better than Safeway, the other place I shop. Costco carries things that Safeway doesn't (obviously, because it sells more than food, but even in the food department) and Safeway has things that Costco doesn't carry. Basically, if they can move something off the shelves fast enough, they'll stock it but anything that doesn't move, you won't see it there again. I think the problem with Costco is quantity. When you have a large family, it's helpful to get large quantities but if you're single or a couple, do you really need to buy 48 rolls of toilet paper? (Mind you, the toilet tissue I get at Costco is far superior to anything I can get at Safeway--in my opinion.) However, one thing that Costco excells in that is beneficial for singles or couples in a busy lifestyle, is they have a huge selection pre-prepared foods--frozen, refrigerated and fresh. To buy these for a large family would be cost prohibitive but they're ideal for one or two.

Not only "do you really need 48 rolls of TP," but where would you put 48 rolls of TP in a small 2-BR apt?????

Well, Melbourne is the first place that's going to get Costco. It will be interesting to see what happens when it gets to Perth.

As for the TP issue, Joan has a thing about having plenty of it in the house, so she should be happy for that, if nothing else. LOL!

If they do, at least there is tissue there to absorb the water.

True again but it would be a horribly soggy mess to clean up and a waste of good tissue.

Although there have only been two of us in the family for years now, I still buy lots of stuff at Costco. I also have the premium membership, that gives back 2%, and it is well worth it.

I dislike shopping, and Costco is great, because I can get so much of it done in one trip.

If you have a friend, you can try spliting that big bag of tissue. lol

I shop at Costco. I love the option to get something for a get together or party. I get my bottled water there when I need lots of it too. I also get my cereal and milk there. Very good price. And don't forget the bread. You can freeze the extra loaf. I also got my sonicare toothbrush there, a tower fan and DVDs. I have also bought clothes. They have name brand clothing there too. I got a good pair of casual Calvin Klein pants! Shampoo, replacement razors. Mouthwash. These are all things I use a lot of. And don't forget the delish hotdog and soda for the bargain price of $1.50! lol Not sure how much it would be where you are though.

Here, the hotdogs are kosher. Is this so in all Costcos?

The ones at the cafe are kosher. I don't know about the ones in the meat section but most of the hot dogs they sell in the grocery stores here are kosher for some reason. We have a lot of jewish communities here though so I thought that was why.

The hotdogs they sell to eat are kosher and the brand name is Sinai. They have both regular beef and polish style.
