I think Pauls message, can awaken some lazy Christians who think they're Christians but really aren't. However, his message seems to drive people to legalism. He does preach repentance, and I've heard him mention before that he isn't talking about legalism. However, just because that isn't what he means, doesn't mean that it isn't the result of his message.

I've heard many of his messages in the past and I believe he is a sincere man of God who preaches Biblical truth. I've never heard him preach legalism, I have heard him say things like at a youth conference when he tells kids not to be like Brittney Spears, etc. but more like Christ. He asks you to examine yourself and in my opinion preaches the truth that there are many who have made vain and false professions of being Christians. He preaches against the doctrine of saying the "sinner's prayer" and go ahead and live like hell if you must, it doesn't really matter too much anyway. I love him and listen to his messages when I'm going through a "spiritual slump."

If they really aren't Christians, then Paul's message is truly invaluable...

Your response above, shows that if we had a clue of biblical obedience, it would not be seen as legalism. It would be seen as obedience. Not by the Law for righteousness, but because we want to obey our father.

Obedience does not = legalism it is the motive of the heart..........

xgringo-

I completely agree with Paul Washer's thesis that non-regeneration is the greatest threat to the church today.

He is fighting against the watered down, incomplete, "user-friendly" gospel that has been taught for the last 40 years in the Southern Baptist Church.

I think he has a message that everyone needs to hear. I saw his video on youtube, and it made me wonder if I was a Christian. Everyone has seen an improvement in my character since then. It's the same way for everyone else that I talk to, and after working at it for about a week temptations start to just seem to go away. I guess they just become alot easier to resist.

That's a powerful tesimony...to a powerful message. I think I will listen to his message on EXAMINE YOURSELF tonight on my iPod before I go to sleep.

I was not familiar with him, but the linked message sounds just like he has been sitting in my congregation and taking notes.

And the point he made about the Christians on the mission field is spot on. My idea of what a Christian should be and how Christians should live changed dramitcally in the 20 years I served in Mexico, Central and South America, and the Far East. The indwelling of the Holy Spirit brough change and the Word (renewing of the mind) brought more change, an to the point that they were truely new creatures, old things were passed away, and all things were new.

When I moved back to the states and saw all the carnal christians (note the small s), I was shocked, hurt, and devistated in my soul.

I came reluctantly to the conclusion that the largest mission field in America in in the Church pews on any given Sinday morning. I have spent the last 18 years trying to bring the Truth of the Word to the lost and dying generation that are calling themselves christian, bur are such in name only.

Sad, but true.

Thanks
RC

Paul Washer gave that one sermon and it shocked many Christians because they are used to preachers making them "feel good" like Joel Osteen and the rest of em. Check out Osteens message of the gospel on Larry King and you will be saddened beyond words. (You Tube)
I hope we have many more men of God step up like him and PREACH!

Can anybody name any other preachers with Paul Washers intensity?

Wow.

This man has the same powerful message the Catholic Christian Faith has been trying to impress on Protestant Christians for centuries. Hopefully, he'll have more luck getting through.

I love his stance on salvation by reciting "the sinner's prayer." I love his citing the prevelance of fornication and abortion among those who call themselves Christians; the Church has never waivered in Her condemnation of both.

Listening to Paul Washer's Baptist sermon has given me hope, and I thank you for posting it. Naturally, I disagree with some of his views but finally, someone has stepped up and debunked the "sinner's prayer" myth. It is truly unbiblical though it is embraced by those who claim to cling to Scripture alone.

Good thread.

What this man is rightly condemning is neither SS nor SF but formulaic salvation. The RCC offers exactly that albeit more extensive and elaborate than the "sinners prayer". If people could get saved by following a prescribed regimen, then the law would have saved people. The fact is that NO ONE got saved by following the law. That was the lesson Herr Luther learned as a Catholic. The real matter is what is the object of our faith, a formula or Christ? James and others simply wrote things intended to probe the reality of our faith not to deny its efficacy to save. The heart is deceitful and it is easy for us to think we have faith when we really don't. That is the problem with all Christians whether Catholic or Protestant.
Yours in Christ,
Ross

Excellent, excellent sermon. I really hope and pray that this will reach many people out there. Just the fact that people would find the truth so 'shocking' speaks volumes, I guess.

I'm not pursuing this or going into detail here, but Washer's message is not the message of the RCC, and anyone who's studied the doctrine on both sides will recognize that instantly. There are many protestant churches and believers who reject the 'Sinners Prayer' myth and have never waivered in their condemnation of sin, so I'm not sure what your point is.

The first part of your post was fine, but then you started arguing Catholic doctrine.

This reminds me of the message that woke me up Kept me from the hip hop lifestyle the gang banging hustling. This is what the truth does it changes people. This man is preaching the truth, this will bring him persecution rather than prosperity on this earth in this world. Its clear, I like when a preacher is concerned with being loved by God and not the world.

I think this is ultimate, most people shutter at thinking about witnessing to others, they think more highly of themselves or more highly of peers than they do of God. Why is this so? Because many professing Christians do not know God, or their bibles.

I have the honor of knowing Paul, he can tell you stories about his missions work in Peru that will make the hair on your neck stand up.

And he has a great sense of humor.

Most importantly, he loves Jesus and is a faithful believer and missionary. May God bless him for his works in faith.

Here is his ministry web page. Paul Washer
