Huston Smith coined the term Scientism. While the claim was that scientists didn't necessarily practice scientism while they practiced their science it was growing increasingly difficult.

Scientismis the belief that the instruments science uses to investigate in their various areas of science are the ONLY means to find truth. That there is no truth outside of empirical evidence and that because of their positions as mediators of this science they are the final arbiter of truth.

Scientism claims: anything that cannot be measured or at least conceived of being measured is simply a fantasy, an unimportant non fact and since scientists are the ones who decide which things are facts and which are not, they simply choose to exclude anything they cannot get their minds around.

Not all scientists fall into the process of scientism there are in fact Christian scientists but they face an immense fraternity of their fellow scientists who reject their faith.

Those who endlessly debate creation v evolution are fighting against this process. The believers in evolution cannot possibly ever give up their beliefs or they will be forced to confess that their science doesn't control the truth.

Metaphysics will tell us there are more important facts than the results of the scientific process. God will not be measured by their instruments and neither will most of the truly important truths out there. Even science will confess that they cannot provide meaning or value to their facts. They only offer us the meager results of their investigations and leave them on our doorstep for religion to decide. Religion has always been in the position to provide these value related questions.

It is fruitless to argue with these people over issues like these, their facts are unimportant and really trivial in the long run. They just don't see the results of evolution as it stands is to destroy the value of the human being because they dont work with values they work with dead things.
